A Very Special Podcast

Episode #102: Christmas in Connecticut (1945)
Release Date: December 20, 2017

Patrick and Kat travel back to the golden age of Hollywood to discuss the fun and fancy free adventures of Elizabeth Lane and Jeffy the Decorated War Hero as they battle hunger, problematic men, the expected standards of mid-20th century women, and a rival lifestyle writer all in a day's work. Yes, it's Christmas in Connecticut; the original with Barbara Stanwyck, not that weird made-for-television misstep Arnold Schwarzenegger subjected us to in 1992.

Plus, which stars from the golden age of Hollywood are still alive in 2017, who are the original gal pals, and how many HOT SCOOPS can Patrick squeeze into one hour. Find out, on a thrilling episode of A VERY SPECIAL PODCAST!

Episode #100: He-Man & She-Ra: A Christmas Special (1985)
Release Date: December 11, 2017

A few years back, Patrick and Kat attempted to record an episode of the podcast discussing the He-Man & She-Ra: A Christmas Special but for some reason the files were corrupted and unplayable (looking at you Skeletor). But, low and behold they have reunited several years later, for EPISODE 100, and gave it a second go.

Needless to say, they are still confused. In a nutshell, it's Prince Adam and Princess Adora's birthday, Orko flies off in a rocket ship  called the Sky Spy that is basically supposed to be a drone, he crashes it onto Earth, kidnaps some children, etc. Anyway, it's a 45 minute long toy commercial.

Plus, what exactly is Skeletor? What was Anne Baxter doing on television in 1985? And, Kat loses her cool (again).

Episode #98: A Christmas Melody (2015)
Release Date: December 3, 2017

The time has come to spread Christmas joy all throughout the internet and Kat and Patrick couldn't think of a better way to kick off the 2017 Christmas season. In the event you are unaware of what A Christmas Melody is, it's the modern day Hallmark Channel classic starring Lacey Chabert, Brennan Elliott, and the diva herself MARIAH CAREY, who is also making her directorial debut. Yes, Mariah Carey... in a director's chair! Giving directions! Can you believe it? If you have trouble believing that, at least open your minds to the magic of the Christmas season, because that happens a lot in this hour and a half of made-for-television saccharine goodness.

Plus, Kat and Patrick nearly engage in fisticuffs over what kind of failed musical act Brennan Elliott's character was involved in during the late 90s/early 2000s. Tweet us your thoughts, please!

Episode #96: Out of Practice - "Thanks"
Release Date: November 18, 2017

Patrick and Kat deliver y'all another Thanksgiving themed episode for the 2017 season and this time it's the short-lived and super obscure CBS sitcom, Out of Practice. This series from the 2005-2006 television season starred our pals Henry Winkler, Christopher Gorham, Stockard Channing, Paula Marshall, and a pre-Modern Family Ty Burrell. This was a show about a family of physicians (plus one marriage counselor) living in New York City... and I dunno, dealing with shit with hilarious results.

Plus, Patrick and Kat reminisce about the Alan Thicke/Gilbert Gottfried episode of Celebrity Wife Swap and all the wacky NBC Universal shows that had episodes that took place at the Montecito, the fake casino from their wildly popular 2000s series, Las Vegas.

This is the one where Marshall is gearing up to slap Barney across the face as pay for their slap bet from the previous season. Meanwhile, Ted and Robin have been broken up for six months but still find it awkward to be around each other.

Plus, Patrick adds "get Kat to watch the "Real Housewives" to his 2018 vision board, New York pizza is totally better than Chicago deep dish, and what went down during the 2007 season of Dancing With The Stars.

Episode #94: Growing Pains - "This is Your Life"
Release Date: November 7, 2017

The supernatural blur of Halloween is behind us and now Patrick and Kat have to slip back into reality, and the best way to do that is with a dream sequence episode of Growing Pains. It's the one where Ben Seaver (marvelously played by "friend of the show" Jeremy Miller) experiences a weird ass anesthesia dream while having his tonsils removed. Special guest star: Alan Hale Jr.

Plus, racy dialogue courtesy of the Growing Pains staff, Jason Seaver mansplaining everything medical related, and the general creepiness of doing medical related business out of a room connected to the family living room.

We also discuss an alternate reality where Kirk Cameron didn't take a bizarre journey through life. Also, guess who finally watched Strangers Things? Spoiler alert: it was us.

Episode #93: Unsolved Mysteries – “February 22, 1989″
Release Date: October 31, 2017

Patrick and Kat face one of their biggest childhood fears head on and discuss a season one episode of Unsolved Mysteries. You know, the wildly popular series that was hosted by the legendary Robert Stack from 1987 to 2002 and then haphazardly resurrected in 2008 with Dennis Farina filling in for Mr. Stack. Each week Stack’s frightful tone delivered a cautionary message to the two of us who believed that around every corner was a murderer or Bigfoot… or an alien!

The first story is focused around a still-to-this-day unsolved bank robbery where the bandits dug beneath the streets of Hollywood to make off with large sums of cash (or possibly floppy disks with government secrets).  Think of it as a real life Ocean’s Eleven, but instead of George Clooney we get a shaggy haired man trying to break into the late-80s Hollywood scene .

The second mystery focuses around two individuals who nearly died and experienced a strange journey through a dark mystical tunnel towards a welcoming light. What exactly is a Near Death Experience? And, is there really something on the other side of this life?

Then, the final tale involves the murder of a middle aged man from Ohio, which is a real brain scratcher. Was it drug dealers, a crime of passion… or a mob hit?

Plus, Patrick and Kat quickly revisit the Nancy Kerrigan/Tonya Harding scandal of the early 90s. And which famous rapper took home the Grammy Award for the first time hip-hop music was included as a genre in the awards ceremony.
