A Very Special Podcast

Episode #63: Saved by the Bell: The College Years - “A Thanksgiving Story”
Original Release Date: November 18, 2016

Patrick and Kat slip into Thanksgiving season with a early 90s cranberry jam that took the playful innocence of Saved by the Bell and plunged it into the murkier waters of primetime with Saved by the Bell: The College Years. Anything goes at Cal U, including anal probes with a turkey thermometer and a slew of new uninteresting supporting characters for Zack, Slater, and Screech Wilson the Beachball to get into trouble with.

Plus, Dustin Diamond’s legal troubles, Patrick and Kat recast some important roles with animated GIFs, clipart, and emojis, and palling around with Mr. Belding post high school.

Oh, and Dorothy has to chose who she wants to ride the saddle with between Sonny Bono and Lyle Waggoner!

Episode #57: Sunset Beach - “Pilot Episode: January 6, 1997″
Original Release Date: September 23, 2016

This week Patrick and Kat take a break from their busy Halloween schedule to celebrate 2 Years 2 Furious. Can you believe it, two years of A Very Special Podcast? Anyway, this week they dialed in their pal Steven DiFiori to discuss the first episode of the short-lived late 1990s NBC soap opera, Sunset Beach, produced by the amazing Aaron Spelling.

It’s okay if you haven’t heard of it. We’ll take you through the trials and tribulations of Meg Cummings as she abandons her life in Ludlow, Kansas to pursue a strange man she only knows from the internet; and surprisingly gets full support from her mom, wonderfully played by Carol “Cindy Walsh” Potter.

Plus, we discuss the usual soap opera tropes, the drama that ensued amongst the Sunset Beachfandom in 1997, the wild west of the the late 90s internet landscape, and we’ll learn which television show has the worst text message interface when depicting modern day communication between two characters who don’t feel like verbally speaking to each other.

This week Patrick and Kat deliver another installment of Here Comes The Boos, a Halloween themed podcast within the podcast; this time around we check in the groovy world of The Brady Bunch. The Brady boys trick the girls into thinking their house is haunted, but then the girls get back at the boys, and then they team up to scare Alice! Oh, and while all this is going on Carol takes up clay sculpting as a hobby.

Plus, why is Carol always acting so batty; is it because she's taking a trip to the Valley of the Dolls. Also, do Mike and Carol attend swinger parties, what are Alice and Sam really up to when they go to the drive in theater, and what the hell is going on behind the walls of Room 222?

Episode #55: Roseanne - “Trick Me Up, Trick Me Down”
Original Release Date: September 10, 2016

This week Patrick and Kat temporarily rebrand themselves as Here Comes the Boos, the Halloween themed podcast-within-the-podcast. I know what you’re thinking, it’s technically still summer; but if Starbucks can sell pumpkin spice lattes already we can pump out Halloween themed episodes this early in September. Plus, we have a ton of stuff we want to cover this year.

Anyway, to kick off Here Comes the Boos, we are heading back to Lanford, IL to check in on the Conner family. This time Roseanne and Dan play a nasty prank on their annoying neighbor Kathy; and Roseanne now lives in fear that Kathy will seek bloody revenge. Does she? Nah, but Dan leads her to believe she did.

Also, we get to the bottom of other fun things that were happening in the fall of 1991 when this was released, such as: Full House moves from Fridays to Tuesday night, Home Improvementpremiers, Vanilla Ice drops his mega-bomb Cool as Ice into a cineplex near you, a pre-Early Edition and Friday Night Lights Kyle Chandler rocks the ABC lineup in some primetime drama called Homefront, and the eastern coast is devastated by The Perfect Storm; which later is developed into a blockbuster film starring George Clooney, who also happens to be in this episode of Roseanne.
