Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.
On this week’s show, we’ll be making merry! In the third segment of this week’s edition of Rapidly Rotating Records, you’ll hear two records by Mickey Guy and His Rose-Tree Café Orchestra and two records by Mickey Guy and His Hottentots, but not because Mickey Guy is getting a birthday salute. So why then play four records by this one band? Well, for listener Jennifer. So why does listener Jennifer get not one, but four records played for her? Well, because her great-uncle, Norman Thoms, was the trumpeter on all seven records by Mickey Guy’s orchestras. It may not be Mickey Guy’s birthday, but Lummie Lewis is getting a birthday salute which starts off the show. Lummie Lewis is much better known for his law enforcement career than for his musical career, so tune in to find out why. Do you know who Delcevare King is? You’ll find out in the fourth segment of the show. On last week’s show you heard one record by the West End Celebrity Orchestra and I hope you liked it, because in the second segment of this week’s show, you’ll hear three more! And in the final segment of the show you’ll find out all about the Yale fight song, “Boola Boola.” There’s lots of great music and interesting information so set aside an hour with your favorite beverage and be magically transported back to an earlier–and we think better–musical era. Just click the link above to instantly listen streaming online and/or download for listening at your convenience.
