Jesus is encountering conflict with the religious leaders, but continues to teach at the temple. While the religious leaders are against Jesus, the crowed notices they have not arrested Jesus yet. Do they believe He is the Messiah too?

The Old Testament mentions three signs of the coming Messiah. In this chapter, John shows that Jesus has fulfilled all three signs. Cross reference these verses and see how they relate to  what Jesus says in John chapter 5 about himself to the religious leaders. 

The authority to judge is given to Him as the Son of Man

• Cross reference with OT verses Daniel 7:13 and 24

The lame and sick are healed

• Cross reference with Isaiah 35:6, Jeremiah 31:8 and 9 

The dead are raised to life 

Cross reference with Deuteronomy 32:39, 1 Samuel 2:6, and 2 Kings 5:7

After witnessing Jesus performing miraculous signs in Jerusalem at the passover celebration many began to trust Jesus. A religious leader, Nicodemus, a pharisee waits until it is night to meet with Jesus. Nicodemus asks the question, "how to be born again?".  Jesus tells him of the Holy Spirit and the birth of spiritual life! Then John's disciples notice more people going to Jesus to be baptized, and John tells his disciples more about who Jesus really is.

Jesus and His disciples are invited to a wedding party in Cana of Galilee and then Jesus arrives to the temple  driving out those in the temple. His disciples then realize this was spoken of Him.
“For I endure scorn for your sake,
and shame covers my face.
I am a foreigner to my own family,
a stranger to my own mother’s children;
for zeal for your house consumes me,
and the insults of those who insult you fall on me.
When I weep and fast,
I must endure scorn;
when I put on sackcloth,
people make sport of me.
Those who sit at the gate mock me,
and I am the song of the drunkards” (Psalm 69:7–12).
