A Walk With Friends

Here in chapter 14, we see the obedience of Paul and Barnabas to Christ  outweigh any risks of being rejected, tortured or killed for sharing the Good News to all. They traveled by foot and by boat to reach all the people with the message of salvation through Christ and to strengthen and encourage new believers in their faith. Be encouraged by the example of Paul and Barnabas today as we read ch 14 together.

Notice the strategy the Holy Spirit led Paul and Barnabas in. Notice the way some people reject the good news, and others rejoice. Notice the way when Paul did bold things such as telling the sorcerer about his sin, it says that Paul first was filled with the Holy Spirit. We can learn so much about how to go about the great commission from Jesus by the early apostles and disciples. Notice how everything they did was first an unction from the Holy Spirit! How much more do we need to ask for the Holy Spirit to fulfill the things we have been called to do?

Talk about faith! We are seeing the early disciples of Christ undergoing severe persecution. Herod Agrippa seeks jewish applause by killing Jesus' followers and imprisoning them. But the church continues to grow steadfast and faithful. May we too be a people of radical faith and complete the call on our lives to get the gospel, the Good news of salvation through Christ alone, to the ends of the earth. May we be filled with the Holy Spirit moving in power and miracles and learn from the early church as we go through the book of Acts together!

Wow! The name "Christian" meaning "Christ-ones" is given for the very first time and the church is expanding from jews to gentiles! Jews are having a difficult time accepting that salvation and forgiveness from their sins through Jesus is for EVERYONE! But God comes in an unusual and incredible way to the apostle Peter through a trance. Let's Jump in to chapter 11!

Today's episode is an intense one. We see the first man martyred for the cause of Christ. Take some time to take notes here and study chapter 7. Stephen reminds the high council of the prophecies, of Israel's rebellion in the past and Israel's rebellion rejecting the Messiah now. Pay attention to how the Bible described Stephen and let us learn something of this man of God.

How Many of us wonder what it was like to walk with the apostles after Jesus ascended into Heaven, filled with the Holy Spirit? ME TOO! Jump into chapter 5 of the book of the Acts with me as we do our daily reading through the 28 chapters of Acts. We get to see for ourselves what the account of the apostles looked like. We get to read about how they handled every situation- I mean they got the first filling of the Holy Ghost as a large group of believers! We as the church today should look at the book of Acts and be able to see a standard of what to expect in our walks of faith because we are filled with the SAME Holy Spirit! Let's go!

Chapter 4 might be one of my all time favorite chapters, because we see how the church started to gain momentum as persecution happened by religious leaders. We get to see the reaction of the people in Jerusalem to the healing of the man who had been lame for over 40 years! We see how the religious leaders and teachers didn't celebrate the healing miracle but did want to stop this teaching of Jesus paying no mind to the miracle. We get to see how the believers at this time were filled with the Holy Spirit in one mind and one accord! We can learn so much about our faith and the early church here in chapter 4 so let's dive in!
