Story Transcript:

Nl: Op een mooi lentedag in Amsterdam zat Jan in het Vondelpark.
En: On a beautiful spring day in Amsterdam, Jan was sitting in Vondelpark.

Nl: Jan hield van tulpen.
En: Jan loved tulips.

Nl: Hij had net een mooie, grote, rode tulp gevonden.
En: He had just found a beautiful, big, red tulip.

Nl: Wat een geluk!
En: What luck!

Nl: Jan nam een foto van de tulp.
En: Jan took a picture of the tulip.

Nl: Klik!
En: Click!

Nl: Toen kreeg hij een idee.
En: Then he got an idea.

Nl: "Ik wil een selfie met de tulp maken!
En: "I want to take a selfie with the tulip!"

Nl: "Met een grote lach op zijn gezicht en de tulp trots omhoog houdend, nam Jan zijn telefoon.
En: With a big smile on his face and proudly holding up the tulip, Jan took his phone.

En: His fingers danced across the screen.

En: But his eyes were not on the road.

En: The water was cold.

Nl: Hij zwom naar de kant en klom het water uit.
En: He swam to the side and climbed out of the water.

Nl: Zijn kleren waren nat.
En: His clothes were wet.

Nl: Zijn telefoon was nat.
En: His phone was wet.

Nl: De tulp was ook nat.
En: The tulip was wet too.

Nl: Een mevrouw met een hondje liep langs.
En: A lady with a little dog walked by.

Nl: Ze lachte een beetje.
En: She laughed a little.

Nl: "Ben je in de gracht gevallen?
En: "Did you fall in the canal?"

Nl: " vroeg de mevrouw.
En: the lady asked.

Nl: "Ja", zei Jan.
En: "Yes," Jan said.

Nl: "Ik wilde een selfie maken met een tulp.
En: "I wanted to take a selfie with a tulip."

Nl: "Mensen keken.
En: People were looking.

Nl: De mevrouw lachte.
En: The lady laughed.

Nl: Maar toen haalde ze iets uit haar tas.
En: But then she took something out of her bag.

Nl: Het was een handdoek.
En: It was a towel.

Nl: "Droog jezelf maar af," zei ze.
En: "Dry yourself off," she said.

Nl: Jan ging zitten en droogde zich af met de handdoek.
En: Jan sat down and dried himself off with the towel.

Nl: Zijn telefoon maakte hij ook droog.
En: He also dried his phone.

Nl: De tulp legde hij zorgvuldig op zijn schoot.
En: He carefully placed the tulip on his lap.

Nl: Toen Jan klaar was, gaf hij de handdoek terug aan de mevrouw.
En: When Jan was done, he returned the towel to the lady.

Nl: Ze knikte en liep weg met haar hondje.
En: She nodded and walked away with her dog.

Nl: Jan keek naar de natte tulp.
En: Jan looked at the wet tulip.

Nl: Hij keek naar de gracht.
En: He looked at the canal.

Nl: Hij keek naar zijn telefoon.
En: He looked at his phone.

Nl: En toen begon hij te lachen.
En: And then he started to laugh.

Nl: "Het maakt niet uit dat ik nat ben", zei Jan.
En: "It doesn't matter that I'm wet," Jan said.

Nl: "Ik heb een grappig verhaal te vertellen.
En: "I have a funny story to tell.

Nl: En ik heb nog steeds mijn tulp.
En: And I still have my tulip.

Nl: De volgende keer moet ik gewoon beter opletten.
En: Next time, I just need to pay better attention."

Nl: "Hij stond op, kneep het restje water uit zijn kleren en liep fluitend weg, de zonnestralen op zijn rug.
En: He stood up, squeezed the remaining water out of his clothes, and walked away whistling, with the sunrays on his back.

Nl: De tulp hield hij stevig vast.
En: He held the tulip tightly.

Nl: Jan was nat, maar blij.
En: Jan was wet but happy.

Nl: En in de verte hoorde je het zachte gerinkel van tram belletjes, een herinnering aan de stad waar hij een vrolijk avontuur beleefde.
En: And in the distance, you could hear the soft jingling of tram bells, a reminder of the city where he had a joyful adventure.
