The Vanderbilt Kennedy Center Treatment and Research Institute for Autism Spectrum Disorders (TRIAD) is dedicated to improving assessment and treatment services for children with autism spectrum disorders and their families while advancing knowledge and training.

Since its inception and evolution, TRIAD has provided services to thousands of children and families throughout Tennessee and beyond. TRIAD programs address community needs for cutting-edge information, high-quality support, and innovative interventions for children with autism spectrum disorders. TRIAD’s specialized outreach staff provides training and direct consultation in state-of-the-art behavioral and educational assessment and intervention strategies in schools throughout the region.

TRIAD-directed research programs and affiliated research partnerships examine the causes and treatment of ASDs. Currently, these directed research and partner programs include projects related to the development of siblings of children with autism, the identification of genetic and core behavioral features of autism, the nature, and treatment of sleep disturbance in children with autism, the diagnosis of autism itself, early intervention with children at risk for autism, and understanding the health and well-being of parents with children with autism. Research conducted through TRIAD serves not only the scientific community at large in its quest to identify the development and causes of ASD but also guides best practices for families and professionals working with children with ASD.

Creating Change • Improving Lives

The Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council creates change to make it possible for people with developmental disabilities to live the lives they want with the support they need.

Their vision is that people with and without disabilities in Maryland live, learn, work, and play together.

The Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council (Council) has been creating change to improve the lives of people with developmental disabilities since 1971. They focus on children, family, and adult issues.  The Council is an independent state agency. They are led by people with developmental disabilities and family members of people with developmental disabilities.

Every 5 years the Council develops a State Plan. The Council’s State Plan includes our most important goals and how the DD Council will accomplish them. Their work is guided by a federal law called the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act – better known as the DD Act. There is a DD Council in every state and U.S. territory (56).

The Council’s funding comes from the federal government. They use their funding on the activities outlined in our State Plan. Their work is completed by staff, Council members, and grantees.

Sunshine Foundation’s sole purpose is to answer the dreams of chronically ill, seriously ill, physically challenged, and abused children ages three to eighteen, whose families cannot fulfill their requests due to the financial strain that the child’s illness may cause.

Sunshine Foundation’s special dreams can be anything from a celebrity meet and greet, a family trip, a shopping spree, or adaptive medical or therapeutic equipment!  Our dreamers have requested and received items such as above-ground swimming pools, outdoor play equipment, sensory rooms, and many other amazing dream items.

When asked the question, “If you could have one dream, what would it be?” the most common response from the children we serve is to visit the Central Florida theme parks. Our magical dreams may include visits to Legoland, Disney, SeaWorld, Universal, and more. Children get to meet their favorite characters, enjoy the rides, and take in all the amazing sights.

Sunshine Foundation has its own Dream Village in Davenport, FL, where families may stay while on a dream trip to Central Florida! The Dream Village features nine fairy tale-themed cottages plus accessible amenities, including a heated zero-entry swimming pool, a mini-golf course, and a playground!
