Don't let your disability keep you from exercising, especially if it's something you enjoy! All of AMG Fitness' programs are free for participants. The workouts in each program are the same, they're adapted to meet an individual's needs - seated, seated and standing, or standing. Each program has ~ 20 workouts. As a nonprofit AMG Fitness relies on the generosity of donors like you. Please use this link if you would like to support their mission.

The mission for AMG Fitness is three-pronged:

Workout Plans: Create numerous workout routines that are easily customizable for varying types of abilities through three different programs.

Creating Community: Provide online and in-person resources to help empower AMG members to live healthier lives and gain an increase in movement.

Raise Awareness: Elevate the discourse around physically disabled people and the need and benefits of physical fitness in this community.

Fitness Programs: 

Adapt - This is focused on those in classes 1-5 and provides sitting and limited movement exercises. This program is focused on getting your heart rate up and improving core strength to allow for greater mobility in your activities of daily living.

Move - This is focused on offering workouts for classes 5-7. The focus of this program will be an adaptable HIIT workout with different circuits to gain strength and increase heart rate. Weights are not required but preferred

Gain - This is focused on workouts for classes 7-10. The program will include weights and resemble a HIIT workout with more complex exercises that require the ability to move from floor to standing.

There is an epidemic of abuse in society.

Reports of abuse surface on an almost weekly basis across organizations and industries.

Gymnasts abused by Larry Nassar, and in the Olympic programs of at least 6 other countries, female soccer players abused by multiple youths and NWSL coaches, high school rowers abused in Maryland, bobsledders, rugby players and rowers abused in Canada, football players abused by the team doctor at the University of Michigan, US snowboarders, NHL hockey players…And those are just the stories that have made the news.

Research indicates children are most vulnerable to sexual abuse between the ages of seven and thirteen. The median age for reported abuse is nine years old. However, more than 20% of children are sexually abused before age eight. And the numbers are even higher for women with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. These statistics likely underreport the frequency of sexual abuse and do not consider covert emotional abuse (grooming) and overt emotional and physical abuse.

We can prevent much of this abuse, and the devastating consequences, by teaching children to recognize all forms of abuse and empowering them to speak up.

Amy Saltzman started Spot A Spider to empower people of all ages to see and stop abuse in any setting (residential facilities/group homes, sports, schools, religious organizations, community activities, etc).

They rely on whoever programs their device. This could lead to well-meaning individuals inadvertently censoring an AAC user. Ms. Hali Strickler is an AAC Services Coordinator for TechOWL at the Institute for our Whole Lives. She provides AAC, assistive technology support, and services to individuals with complex communication needs. Hali received her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Speech, Language, and Hearing Science from Temple University. She is a licensed and certified speech-language pathologist with experience in the public school setting.

Abuse Red Flags - do you know what you should be looking for? It's not always blatant. In this episode Marvie shares what parents and professionals can do to spot abuse. 

Marvie Corbett serves as a Director of Psychotherapy and our Director of Educational Advocacy with Rebecca Resnik and Associates. Marvie is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW-C) in the state of Maryland. She has been in the field for over 10 years. Marvie earned her Master's in Social Work at the University of Maryland, Baltimore in 2013. Marvie graduated from West Virginia University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.

Marvie specializes in helping individuals, couples, and families learn to understand their unique and hidden strengths, even those that sometimes present as barriers. Marvie works with clients to utilize these strengths to develop new skills and behaviors that help them to feel more empowered, increase self-worth, to improve intrinsic motivation, and feel healthy control over thoughts and feelings. Marvie has experience working in a variety of settings including psychiatric inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, community-based centers, schools, and private practice.

Marvie has experience working with children, adolescents/young adults, and adults who have a wide range of concerns including anxiety, depression, self-esteem, impulse control, stress management, and family or other relational conflicts. Additionally, she has experience supporting and helping those with trauma, OCD, and attachment-related symptoms. Marvie is trained in a wide variety of treatment approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Family Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Systemic Therapy, and expressive therapies (e.g. art and sand tray therapy).

Eleni Paris is a licensed marriage and family therapist in the Tampa Bay area with a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in marriage and family therapy, both from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.  She has over 20 years of professional experience including clinical work, workshop and seminar presentations, discussion and support groups, writing contributions, collaborative work with various health professionals, and wellness coaching. Eleni is a clinical member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and has been published in the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy.

Eleni is married and has two daughters, one with developmental disabilities. The Vanderbilt Kennedy Center Treatment and Research Institute for Autism Spectrum Disorders (TRIAD) is dedicated to improving assessment and treatment services for children with autism spectrum disorders and their families while advancing knowledge and training.

Since its inception and evolution, TRIAD has provided services to thousands of children and families throughout Tennessee and beyond. TRIAD programs address community needs for cutting-edge information, high-quality support, and innovative interventions for children with autism spectrum disorders. TRIAD’s specialized outreach staff provides training and direct consultation in state-of-the-art behavioral and educational assessment and intervention strategies in schools throughout the region.

TRIAD-directed research programs and affiliated research partnerships examine the causes and treatment of ASDs. Currently, these directed research and partner programs include projects related to the development of siblings of children with autism, the identification of genetic and core behavioral features of autism, the nature, and treatment of sleep disturbance in children with autism, the diagnosis of autism itself, early intervention with children at risk for autism, and understanding the health and well-being of parents with children with autism. Research conducted through TRIAD serves not only the scientific community at large in its quest to identify the development and causes of ASD but also guides best practices for families and professionals working with children with ASD.
