The philosopher, just like the individual, through introspection needs to come to terms with the structures of thought and belief which shape the territory of their mind, and inform their being. We used to navigate these structures together, as individuals engaged in conversation, and it was healthiest to do so honestly. It seems there are new structures of thought, newly arisen, occupying territory in the mind of individuals—maybe given rise to by the globalizing forces of a new social reality. Structures, thoughts, beliefs, which have their origin in ideology. Whatever their merit, my experience has been that their presence makes it difficult to connect to another person on a local level, through conversation.
