This week we continue our lesson of doing God‘s mission by looking at Paul as he ministered to the city of Athens. During his time in Athens, his approach to how he ministered to the people within the city is how we should approach mission work when we are talking to those That have never heard of the gospel or of Jesus Christ. Paul used his knowledge, his wisdom and his love for God to reach the hearts and minds of those that were already in a faith following other gods and idols. He used his way of communicating to these people to find common ground and to show that they were only a step or two away from acknowledging the one true God.

As we continue our study of following God’s mission, we look at the importance of mission to the powerful. Through looking at some of the most powerful figures in the bible, we see how even with their power, they recognized their need for God in their lives and the importance of following Him. We see through the lives of Nebuchadnezzar, Nicodemus, and several others we see how power and wealth can be great assets, but also great barriers. We discuss why we should follow in the footsteps of Jesus in how he dealt with those in power and with wealth by seeing them a children of God like we are and to show them the truth in His word.

With any mission, there are going to be areas that are hard to do. This weeks lesson is one of those areas that will be a challenge for many. We discuss our own struggles in ministering to the needy. We discuss the importance of helping those who are struggling with barriers in their lives and how we can help them avoid creating further stumbling block but instead create a stepping stone to Christ.

Like any mission, there is a starting point and with God’s mission, this is no different. When spreading the word of God, we should start with neighbors, our own families, and with our friends. If we are able to start there, then there is no one we can’t reach out to. God’s mission is for all and if we are to be stewards of this mission, we need to be able to reach those closest to us with his promise. Whether or not they accept is between them and God, but for us who follow, this is the work we must do.

As it comes to any mission, preparation is key, but that is only one element you need when it come to doing the mission set for us by God. You need to be motivated to accomplish the things God has set forth for us to do. This week we discuss he importance of being prepared and motivated when it comes to spreading the gospel to the world. We also look at the connection that prayer has when it comes to speaking to others about the wonders and beauty that is God.

This weeks lesson we look at one of the great patriarchs in then Old Testament, Abraham. He set an example of what it means to not just follow God’s Mission, but actually be a part of that mission in all things in his life. We discuss how 3 main characteristics are displayed by Abraham in his quest to adhering to God’s plan. He shows hospitality, he shares his love with others, and he is in constant prayer with his creator. By following Abraham’s example, we too can be a part of God’s mission as well.

This quarter we will be studying about the mission God set forth to save His children but also look at the mission given to us to help in fulfilling His. This weeks lesson is a continuation of the previous lesson on the Armor of God. This weeks lesson, titled “Waging Peace”, has us review the various aspects of the armor we should put on as we walk this earth. Starting with the belt of truth and going Al the way to the sword of the spirit, each item is discussed in context of what we should be prepared with as a Roman soldier prepares for battle. Looking at our own experiences in the military and the use of this type of imagery helps in connecting the lesson Paul is presenting to the Ephesians.
