Everyone who is questioning Duke or saying, 'they're just a basketball school' may want to review tape on the Blue Devils. Forget about the stats because, if anything, they are misleading about both teams. If there is one thing you can take away from Duke taking on Notre Dame it's that college football has and is changing. Frankly, it's leaving us with a bit of a smirk on our faces.

Will and Jim welcome Conor O'Neill, the Publisher of Devils Illustrated to the podcast (subscribe) to sift through the trash talk, the wonky stats and share gut feelings about this game. Former Irish DC Mike Elko who took over the reins as head coach in Durham has turned the program rather quickly. This is his second season and the Blue Devils are among the Top 25 teams in the nation.

The question is, do they have enough talent and depth to give the Irish a run for the money? Notre Dame fans, in true form, don't think much of Duke....as a football team. According to some, they're 'mediocre'. O'Neill shares the players and positions that are anything but and will be more than a handful.

You'll get a good feel for what the Duke offense offers behind QB Riley Leonard and a three-headed running back room (there's more) and why O'Neill believes this game may be a battle for supremacy on the ground first before looking for cracks in the opposing secondary.

Week four of ACC football was both brilliant and bumbling but even the bad was beginning to show signs of good. The top tier of the conference finds Florida State, Louisville, Duke and North Carolina sporting unblemished records. Will they be able to hang on and make it to the ACC Championship? It may feel too early to be talking about such things but as things begin to shake out in conference play it's nice to know who the players are. The only other 4-0 (overall) teams are Miami and Syracuse and both are about to dive into ACC waters where they'll have to prove themselves worthy of a shot at a title.

First things first, however as the guys look at the ACC/SEC Basketball Challenge schedule for men and women. There are a number of choice matchups among ranked teams and a few that will be proving grounds for others.

Will and Jim review week three of ACC football and find some surprising and promising performances. It's easy to be a bit short-sighted when it comes to a handful of teams in the conference but the reality is they're in the midst of a rebuild. These things take time. If you at their efforts you can choose to be disappointed or look at the long-term plans and where the team stands within that plan.

Miami started the week off with a solid win but there's not much to talk about. The Canes are proving themselves and after three weeks of play we have a much better view of the job Mario Cristobal has done. With the team ranked nationally at 21/20 (USA Today/AP) the boo-birds are beginning to disappear.

Virginia has a much bigger challenge but they are at the front-end of this effort. It's all about personnel and Tony Elliott has a big hill to climb on the recruitment trail. Waiting on the start of ACC football always seems like an eternity. Just as soon as it gets here, it starts unwinding quicker than the blink of an eye. We're headed into week three of the conference football season and much like in years past some aspects of the ACC have been turned on it's head.

It started off with some big questions during the spring, turned into a veritable..ahem..storm over the summer with realignment and further confusion was heaped upon us all with fall practice. If you expected any aspect of the ACC to settle down once the schedule kicked off then you haven't been paying attention over the last few years.

Teams that were, are apparently no longer. Teams that once upon a time were, are re-emerging. And, as always, the middle of the pack is full of, (wait, they did what?) teams. Isn't ACC football fun? So the latest USA Today and AP Top 25 polls out of week two are becoming a wee bit less murky. Perhaps, after week three we'll know enough to feel safe talking trash at work where you have to do it face to face and deal with the consequences after the game. That on-line stuff in boards and on social media behind fake names just doesn't cut it anymore. It's soft.

Week 1 of the Boston College football season can best be described as ominous. If it is an indication of what is ahead it's going to be a long year for fans and maybe a short one for head coach Jeff Hafley. Will and Jim want to know, what the hell is going on at Chestnut Hill? In a loss to Northern Illinois that leaves most BC fans at a loss for words and now facing a top ranked FCS opponent in Holy Cross that is a must win the future feels precarious at best for Hafley. Can he turn things around? Clean up the tsunami of penalties? Get his starting QB back on track or will he have to permanently shift his backup to starter?

It takes new head coaches as much as 4 years to turn the corner with programs post-COVID. Taking on the challenge of turning around a faltering Louisville football program isn't without it's risks. Jeff Brohm, familiar with the demands of fans in Derby City for a winner came in swinging. There's been a monstrous turnover in the roster, both coming and going. It's, for the most part a completely new staff with a new look on both sides of the ball. The Cardinals haven't had any difficulty in attracting talent, it's always been what you do with it when it's there.

Special teams may be a little iffy in the kicking game but a healthy competition in camp may deliver an answer. When it comes to returns there are plenty of players to select from.

Finally, Weiler goes over the schedule with the guys with a very reasonable win/loss record possible for Florida State football this season.

One of the keys to improving pass defense is working with a stellar wide receiving corps. Look for Wake Forest to take the top off opposing defenses behind QB Mitch Griffis who steps up to take command of the offense. The depth of the RB room guarantees a solid 'by committee' approach behind the workhorse Justice Ellison.
