Navigating winter roads as a semi-truck driver requires a comprehensive approach to ensure safety and efficiency. First and foremost, it's crucial to stay informed about weather conditions and road closures, utilizing real-time updates and forecasts. Before hitting the road, conduct a thorough pre-trip inspection, paying close attention to tires, brakes, and fluids, and ensure that all equipment, including snow chains, is in optimal condition. Adjust driving speed to match road conditions and maintain a safe following distance to allow for longer stopping distances on icy or snowy surfaces. Stay vigilant and anticipate potential hazards, such as black ice or reduced visibility, by increasing awareness through mirrors and staying attuned to other drivers' behavior. Carry essential supplies like blankets, extra clothing, non-perishable food, and water in case of unexpected delays. Regularly communicate with dispatch to provide updates on your location and conditions. Overall, a cautious and prepared approach, coupled with continuous communication and adaptability, is key to successfully navigating winter driving challenges as a semi-truck driver.

Dan and AJ discuss the end of the 2023 year. As the year comes to a close they reflect on how they see the future of the moving industry going into 2024.  Including new rules that go into effect for California trucks.  Beginning January 1, 2024, trucks must be registered in the CARB Online System to conduct drayage activities in California. Non-zero-emission “legacy” drayage trucks may register in the CARB Online System (coming soon) through December 31, 2023. Legacy drayage trucks can continue to operate through their minimum useful life. Beginning January 1, 2024, only zero-emission drayage trucks may register in the CARB Online System. All drayage trucks entering seaports and intermodal railyards will be required to be zero-emission by 2035.
