The last month has seen numerous flash flooding events across the country including Dallas, St. Louis, eastern Kentucky and even Death Valley. As the planet warms, flooding events like these are becoming more common and extreme.
Dr. Rosimar Rios-Berrios, a research meteorologist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, joins the Lee Weather Team on this week's episode to discuss the science behind flooding and what's expected in the future.
Rios-Berrios is also a member of Science Moms, an organization of climate scientists and mothers who are helping other moms better understand climate change. She discusses her work with the organization and what people can do to help slow down global warming.

Valerie Sanders of WeatherCall Services talks with us about the automated weather emergency alerts that you get on your phone — and why they often miss their mark.
Different than the push notifications you get from weather apps, the Wireless Emergency Alerts are not distributed consistently by all mobile providers, leading to further confusion when people receive them.

When weather events devastate a community, there is more work to do beyond rebuilding homes and businesses. There is also a need to repair damage to the ecosystem, specifically lost trees.
Grady McGahan is the director of RETREET at Keep America Beautiful, an organization that focuses on environmental rehabilitation following damage caused by severe storms by replanting lost trees.
He graduated from Georgetown University in 2004 with a BA in English and minors in international business, history and studio art. McGahan worked on the production teams of the 2008 Papal Mass at Yankee Stadium, the Bravo series "Long Way Round," the PBS series "Texas Ranch House," and Michael Moore's documentary film "SiCKO." In April of 2010, he began an 18-month trip around-the-world that took McGahan to 25 countries on 5 continents.
