Insecure defined is to not be firmly fixed; liable to give way or break, as in an insecure staircase. In reference to people, insecure is defined as not confident or assured; uncertain and anxious. Nothing new to any of us I’m sure. But have you ever stopped to think about factors that may contribute to any feelings, thoughts or actions that may be described as insecure? In todays society, social media is absolutely a contributing factor. But yo what extent do you allow it to seep into your mind? Even more thought provoking, how does one’s social media activity feed insecurities in relationships?

When thinking of interactions we face on a daily basis, we may be unaware of all the ways we are impacted that create some insecurities in all of us. Whether it’s a slimmer waist on a insta-model, the thicker beard on some random dude on TikTok, or the luxury lifestyles splattered across our 8 inch screens.  But is it really those images creating these feelings in us or was there already a tiny spot that is being widened? 

In consideration of relationships, the same dynamics exist. Your partners scrolling can cause you to question your own value if you aren’t secure in what is between the two of you. But is it possible to be affected unexpectedly based on their viewing pleasure?

S.E.X. Why is having conversations about “it” so taboo? We’re all having it. Well, most of us anyway. So why is it that we aren’t open to having the real talks about what we want, like, love & want no parts of? For something that is a staple in every committed relationship (and some extraneous relationships as well), you’d think everyone would be willing to have “the talk”.   Dr. Phil once said sex is 90% of the relationship if you’re not having it, but only 10% of the relationship when you are. So basically, it’s a big deal when it’s missing or unsatisfactory…which is why the conversations are needed.   We all want not just sex, but good sex. But do you really know how? It sounds rhetorical…I know. 

Of course we know what goes where. But do we really know how to have the sex we want? Or are we just doing it for the sake of doing it?  After being together for 20+ years, we have experienced lots of sex. It hadn’t all been the same and has not all been “good”. But at the time, you couldn’t tell us anything. Sex, just like anything else, is great until you discover something greater, right? But are you waiting for greater to come or are you actively seeking what you really desire?  Having conversations before, during and after us how we’ve found our groove. But it took years to get there. Just like we had to learn what works in every aspect of our relationship, we also gad to find what worked, and more importantly, what didn’t work in the bedroom.

We all know or at least have heard about love languages. If you haven’t, just know there’s 5, you should know yours so others will know how to best love you and you should know others do you can reciprocate in the ways that mean mist yo them. Now that we have that straight, do you know you fighting language? It’s probably something that you haven’t given much thought to in your life, but it’s just as important to know how to fight as it is to love.  Let’s be clear. Physical fighting is not part of this discussion. Domestic violence is abhorrent and intolerable under all circumstances. Disagreements happen in every relationship. Arguments can range from small misunderstandings to huge blowups. Whether it’s about finances, chores, who misplaced the remote, it happens to the best of us. But do you know how to fight?  In our household, there are fighting rules. A few include no name calling, no storming out the house, no insults, and doing our best not to say things we don’t mean. It has been a standard we set to ensure that after the storm, we can bask in the sun knowing our troubles are behind us. Or at least until next time. But what happens when there aren’t any rules or standards? Can things go too far? Is there a line that’s crossed where the other dude seems so far away? 

 All of the above is possible which is why having a standard and communicating with your partners what you need, dislike & triggers you is important to ensure the next disagreement isn’t the end of the relationship. Knowing how to fight is important. It’s not a one size fit all solution. However, learning what works for your relationship will help to get to the happy place much sooner.  But what do we know? Snitches get stitches. How old were you the 1st time you heard that phrase? How about “don’t be a tattle-tell”?  We’ve probably all been told this since we learned to talk. Why were we so conditioned not to tell on others from such a young age? Or were “we”? I guess the real question is was this a cultural mindset instilled in the black communities, or are these euphemisms solely applicable to growing up black?  Fast forward from childhood scoldings about tattling to juveniles running wild being free and living by a street code. No ratting. By any means necessary.

 Under all circumstances. No excuses.  See an old lady get knocked over the head? Watch a store owner who helps the community being robbed at gunpoint? Witnessed your homie being killed in a case of mistaken identity?  You didn’t see, hear, or know anything about anything. That’s the code.   Just think about the message being ingrained into the minds of the youth who grow into men holding on to this same code of ethics.   When does the rule of no snitching go too far? Who is even required to abide by the code if anyone is deemed required? How do we break the curse of protecting criminals to better our communities and allow the next generation the opportunity to grow into adulthood?  

Growing up in the hood shouldn’t mean you are complicit in crimes via secrecy. But how do you gurney what you’ve been taug

Yup…we had to go here. Everybody has had a word. A moment. A monologue. An opinion. Some a whole dissertation. So let’s talk about it. Does everybody hate Chris? Is Will Smith on a pursuit of happiness? What kind of entanglement has the world been wrapped up in over the last week? If there’s anything we know to be true, the Oscars will never be the same.  While some opinions have been filled with conjecture, there are some facts we are aware of since the slap.   Will Smith smacked Chris Rock. Fact.  Chris Rock did not defend himself. Fact.  Will Smith won an Oscar. Fact.  Anything else…remains to be known to those of us watching from afar.  Opinions have been spread across the world in different languages, modes of communication, and video angles. Was this an act of chivalry where a husband came to his wife’s defense? Or was this example of the straw breaking the camel’s back in a situation where the pressure of fame, public marital discord & possible identity crisis came to the surface and boiled over? Is there a right or wrong?  We don’t have any answers but we have our own thoughts and opinions. In full transparency, they continue to evolve with every new video angle that becomes available. The thought of being publicly humiliated is a feeling no one wants to experience. Yet many feel this is a situation where the chicken came home to roost almost immediately. Can we empathize equally with a woman feeling embarrassed about her appearance due to alopecia while simultaneously feeling sadness for the comedian who was the source of her distress? Do you know where the closest sexual predator lives in your neighborhood? No? Well, if you wanted to know, you could. Megan’s Law, named after 7 year old Megan Kanka who was raked and killed by a neighbor, a known child molester, who was living across the street from her family without them having a clue, gives access for everyone to know via the sex offender registry. Such a scary thought to know danger could literally be right next door. But it’s more prevalent than we realize. And what’s even scarier is knowing there are real predators in the world who’ve yet to make the list under Megan’s Law because they haven’t been caught.  The NFL is a multibillion dollar industry. As of 2017, there were at least 16 players who were accused of some form of sexual assault. While this number may seem low to some in comparison to the number of players employed by the NFL, it’s still an alarming number considering this is just one organization. When we think of the Google, Apple, and other huge conglomerates in the world,  can you imagine how many predators are hiding amongst their peers?   When you visit the grocery store, shopping mall, and even church. Yup! They are everywhere. But what happens to millionaires accused of crimes and only gave civil litigation? Should society still view them as criminals although they’re never placed in a position to be found guilty? I mean, the rule is “innocent until proven guilty” right? But when does it cross the line to victim shaming and blaming if the accused aren’t held liable?  It’s such a messy world to navigate and should be part of society that one day vanishes. Genius is described as “exceptional intellectual or creative power or other natural ability”. Another definition says a genius is “a person who is exceptionally intelligent or creative, either generally or in some particular respect”.  With the definition explaining what & who a genius is, who determines who gets to wear the label? Is there a genius-meter that measures one’s intelligence or creativity to confirm if it meets the standard of genius? Nope. Or at least not that us on sale at Walmart, Costco or Target. And we know for certain if Amazon doesn’t sell it, it hasn’t been created.  So with that in mind, the subjectivity of genius is in the minds of those who care to ponder to whom the title belongs. In terms of musicality, some may say Michael Jackson, Prince & Stevie Wonder are classified as genius without a doubt. Others may include names of other musicians from other genres of music, but at the end of the day, it’s all a matter of opinion.   Now of course there has to be some qualifying criteria to avoid a debate. And here the question comes again…who determines the criteria? When considering Kanye West, some Jay argue the genius tag is thrown around undeservingly. Others may counter and make claim that 11 studio albums, 2 live albums, 1 compilation albums, and 2 collaborative albums , in addition to countless producer credits, and a clothing and sneaker empire, Yeezy, Ye, Donda’s son, Mr.West or any other moniker you prefer to attach to him, is certainly in the runnings of being on the Mount Rushmore of musical geniuses.  But that’s our opinion. After the loss of his mother, facing psychological battles, familial strife and having the world recently having the opportunity to view the last 20 years of his life, Kanye is certainly a conversation to be had. There have been songs, movies, and books written about love since the beginning of time. From Musiq Soulchild to Alicia Keys back to The Temptations and Smokey Robinson. Let’s not forget Mary J. Bilge’s major hit “Real Love”! Love songs have infiltrated our lives since birth. Did you know in the New American Standard Version of Bible love is mentioned 541 times?!? Yup! You can ask 100 people what does love mean to them and may get 100 unique responses. In the words of Tina Turner, “What’s Love Got to Do With It?” anyway?  No matter what love means to you, you definitely have an opinion about it. And of course, so do we.  Love can be described as an action. Things you do, words you say, actions you demonstrate can be your expression of love. But when is it too soon, or is it ever? We all want to love and be loved, but how do we know when it’s real?  We all hear about puppy love between teens. But what happens when the “puppies” are actually adults and are trying to navigate their way through finding, keeping and nurturing love? For certain it can be one of the most beautiful experiences in life. However, it also has the potential to be the exact opposite. But does it really? If it hurts, is it love?  As we get older, love evolves as we have new experiences. How we define love, give love and receive love changes. Sarah Baartman was a 19th century side show attraction. Her physical anomaly became an eyesore to some and the source of entertainment and unsolicited sexual pleasure for others. Yup! That’s a part of history that isn’t shared. Well, as Black History Month just ended and we’re now in the midst of Women’s History Month, this is a perfect time than any to really tell it like it is. But we’re not here for a history lesson. However,  how ironic that 200+ years after Ms. Baartman’s death, the very thing that became her downfall in life, due to no fault of her own, is a highly sought after “asset” amongst many in today’s female population?

We all know trends aren’t anything new. Whether it’s the hottest sneakers, flyest handbag, or sexiest swimsuits, women have flocked to fashion trends since there’s been fashion. However, who would ever imagine that surgically enhancing your body would become so “trendy”? But here we are. #BBLs are taking over the world.

Ok. Maybe not the world. But it’s happening at higher rates than ever. Again, cosmetic surgery is also nothing new. Whether to Miami, Beverly Hills, Rio de Janeiro, or the Dominican Public, for years women have travelled across and out of the country for years in search of a bigger butt. But there has been a huge incline in the number of surgeries being performed within recent years.

Is this BBL trend a result of social media influencers? Are the “it girls” creating a wave that drives women’s desires to copy/paste the same cheeks over and over again? But what happens when you paste and it’s not quite what you hoped for when you hit copy? We all know surgery, like shoes, is not one size fit all. So what happens when you look in the mirror and realize something isn’t right?

At the end of the day, the only person’s opinion that matters is the one under the knife or needle. No matter who agrees or disagrees, the most important thing is that you love who you see in the mirror. Self love is the best love after God’s love. But that doesn’t mean we don’t have an opinion. We may not always agree. But we do agree no matter what your decision, please be safe and ensure your health is priority.

Life comes with a lot of “firsts”. Baby’s first steps. First words spoken. First day of school. First time driving. First kiss. First time leaving the best. And what some may consider the penultimate American Dream - first time buying a home. For done, this is a part of life that’s dreamt about, planned for, and brought to fruition. Some born with a silver spoon may never give ur a second thought because what else would they expect out of life? Others may have to hustle hard to make their dream a reality. And they do just that. For some, roadblocks may be encountered which make the dream seem impossible to achieve.  Well, ya boy did it. Ya boy, International Walt, is a first time homebuyer. And if you know his story, you know it’s nothing but God’s glory that has brought him to this point. After living in 2 states, 3 counties, and 4 addresses together, the host & cohosted have made another leap into their 5th address. Let’s just say Act 2 is playing out to its full potential.  Take a look at episode 59 as we discuss the process, the emotions & transformation that has brought us to this moment. For some, this is just a natural progression of adulthood. However, for others this is a significant part of life that seemed unattainable at some junctures. But it happened. We did it.
