  • STAND: A behaviour support system based on understanding need

STAND: A behaviour support system based on understanding need.

After our conversation with Alun Ebenezer about “warm strict” approaches to behaviour, we turn to a rather different perspective.
What happens when students struggle to engage with the expectations and structures of a traditional school setting? And what might help them re-engage?
In our latest podcast, we speak to Sorrel from Fresh Start in Education about the STAND Behaviour Framework, exploring its emphasis on relationships, safety and understanding the needs behind challenging behaviour, and how this fits into a Christian framework.
It’s a conversation about different approaches to behaviour — and asks some of the big questions Christian educators might want to consider when supporting pupils who are struggling to engage.

  • Unpacking the impact of conversion practices legislation on Education

On the ACT podcast this week, Lizzie interviews Simon Calvert of the Christian Institute about the UK Government's draft Conversion Practices Bill. He explains how existing laws already prohibit abuse, while the draft risks restricting ordinary conversations between children and parents, church leaders and, of particular interest to ACT, teachers. He also raises concerns about proposed protection orders, which could carry criminal penalties if breached. Listen to learn how Christian educators can submit evidence, engage school leadership and unions, and follow updates via christian.org.uk and letuspray.uk.
