Many who grew up attending church have memorized the words to the famous “Lord’s Prayer.” However, do we understand the heart behind this prayer that Jesus modeled for us?
How are we to respond to people who wrong us or harm us? Rather than responding to evil in kind, Jesus taught a radical message that we are to love our enemies and to be generous toward them.
In Matthew 5, when Jesus addresses some important issues like adultery, anger, lust, and divorce – is He being legalistic and adding to the law? As we live out Christian life and obey God’s laws it’s crucial to understand God’s heart behind the law.
Part 1: Salt and Light, Christ Came to Fulfill the Law.
Jesus taught us how, as his disciples, we are to represent him as we go out into the world. Like salt and light, we are to be intense, distinct agents with disproportionate impact on our surroundings. And we are to live out kingdom values fulfilling not just the letter but the spirit of the law, as Jesus taught and modeled for us.
The famous story of David and Goliath still rings true today: there are many modern-day “Goliaths” that intimidate God’s people into inactivity. In that environment, how can we become “Davids” for our generation?
What am I to do with my life?” When Jesus dispels our spiritual cluelessness and opens our eyes to our spiritual condition and predicament, we have both the answer to that question and a vision for our lives.
Ever wondered what God’s will for your life is? God’s stated will for our lives is clear: go and share in God’s heart–be missional wherever you are this summer, and for the rest of your life!
Last words are meant to be treasured – this week we focus on Jesus’ last recorded words in the book of Matthew. We examine the implications for our lives as well as how, in ways we don’t often consider, the Great Commission is intensely personal.
No matter who you are, if you’re Christian, Jesus’s Great Commission applies to you. But what does it look like to obey the Great Commission? What does it mean to make disciples?
