John the Baptist bursts onto the scene, heralding the arrival of God’s kingdom.  But this good news also compels us to repent and remove obstacles to Jesus’ lordship over every aspect of our lives–intellectual, emotional, and volitional.  The Gospel is the wonderful message that God has declared amnesty for all who will repent, receive forgiveness, and be restored as his beloved children.  Then, we too can take up the mantle of John and proclaim this good news to our friends.

  • For or Against Us?

When God commissions Joshua to lead the Israelites in the conquest of the Promised Land, he’s not in a position of confidence.  On the eve of battle, a man with a drawn sword approaches and Joshua asks, “Are you for us or for our adversaries?” Like Joshua, we’re so prone to see the world this way, but we need to have an encounter with God and ask ourselves whether we are on God’s side or not.

Jesus didn’t just see the world as a harvest field, but also as a spiritual battle against a cunning enemy: Satan.  Satan puts forth a lot of different schemes to prevent us from engaging in this spiritual battle.

  • How Jesus Sees the World

Some people see the world as a dangerous place, some people see the world as a place to shine, but Jesus saw the world as a harvest field.  Jesus said that the harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few.  And what it looks like to be a laborer can be found in a subsequent passage in the Parable of the Good Samaritan.

  • Remember God’s Word

Satan’s objective in Genesis 3 isn’t so much in getting Eve to commit a transgression but in getting Eve to doubt God’s words.  If only Eve had remembered God’s words earlier!  She would have remembered precisely what God said and been able to expose Satan for his lies.  In this message, we are challenged to know God’s Word and remember God’s Word as we are bombarded by Satan’s lies throughout our lives.

Continuing our study through Apostle Paul’s letter to Titus, we examine some of the goals of Christian living and how we ought to be.  We also examine where we start, and what we’re called to do to reach those goals.

In Paul’s letter to Titus, Paul exhorts Titus to find respectable Christians among the Cretans and shape their character.  Not an easy task.  In this message, we look at how Apostle Paul sees himself and how we ought to see ourselves and how that defines the way that we live.  We get a glimpse on the kind of people we ought to be through Paul’s exhortation to Titus.

After Peter’s denial of Jesus and Jesus’ resurrection, Jesus comes to Peter while he and the disciples are fishing.  The disciples experience a miraculous catch of fish.  Even though Jesus knows Peter’s failures, Jesus approaches Peter in this moment and asks Peter “do you love me?” three times.  In order to be given ministry, this is the question Peter must answer, and this is the question we must answer as well.

  • Faith After Failure

Peter thought that he was brave enough and loyal enough to be with Jesus to prison and to death, but Jesus knew Peter better than he knew himself.  Jesus, knowing that Peter would fail, prayed that Peter would have faith that would not fail and that after he turns again he would strengthen his brothers.  Though the depths of our sins may be greater than we know, Jesus intercedes for us that we would have faith after failure and faith to repent.
