Actual Anarchy Podcast - AnCap Movie Reviews from a Rothbardian Perspective episodes

  • Episode 150 - Zombieland (1:05:59)
Limber up and get ready to enjoy the little things as we welcome back Rachel from Cannabis Heals Me to talk about "Zombieland".
The new one is currently in theaters now, so we thought it would be a good time to hit up the original. This is not an SJW-friendly movie, which is just our style. It's even got the great Bill Murray in it. It's time to nut up or shut up!
Why are we alive when everybody around us has turned to meat?
Coming up next, we'll put on a happy face and send in the clowns with a review of the hot topic movie, "Joker". Joining us will be our Batman-man from down under, the wonderful Shaheen.

Robert and I analyze popular movies from a Rothbardian/Anarcho-Capitalist perspective.
We use movies as a starting point for people who may not be familiar with this way of thinking.   Discussion of the plot and decisions that characters make in relation to morality and violations of the non-aggression principle are our bread and butter.
We also will highlight and discuss any themes or lessons from Austrian Economics that we can glean from the film.
The point is to show what anarchy actually is with instances that are presented in film.
We publish at least once per week; and occasionally will do specials surrounding holidays or events (elections/olympics) and have guests.

  • Episode 149 - Dune (1:04:46)
Pumpkin spice season so we dive into David Lynch's adaptation of “Dune”. We return with some spice this week as Anarchist Luke Tatum of the Culture of Peace Podcast and the new game studio, Human Action Studios, joins us for this one.
Luke recently read the novel, so there is some compare and contrast, as well as discussion about the upcoming adaptation that is more true to the novel coming late next year from the guy who brung you “Blade Runner 2049”.
Next week we shall return from the dead as we discuss “Zombieland” with Rachel of Cannabis Heals Me. “Zombieland 2” is hitting theaters later this month, so there’s no time like the present to do an episode on the original.

  • Episode 148 - Spirited Away (1:13:59)
We welcome back Olof the Anarcho Viking to discuss a movie he claims is so awesome that he's watched it 20 times. "Spirited Away" is an award-winning visual masterpiece with a coming-of-age story fused with the Shinto religion... Asian Fusion if you will. It's not exactly good for young kids, but it does have some interesting and somewhat confusing things happening that might be great if you're on an acid trip.
Olof was our guest for “The Outlaw King” where we brought some of that triple-H heat to the discussion. You can check that out at Actual Anarchy. Com / 107 and Last Nighters . Com / 50
He was to be our guest for “The Truman Show” but other commitments came up, and he was filled-in for by the venerable Mike C.
We shall return with some spice next week as Anarchist Luke Tatum of the Culture of Peace Podcast joins us for David Lynch’s “Dune”. Cowboy Beebop.

Go ahead, get off my lawn. We talk about Clint Eastwood's latest and last motion picture, "The Mule". Our guest is Rocky Ferrenburg and we will have a lively discussion on the drug war, police violence, the drug trade, choosing work over family, regret, redemption and the man with no name himself.
Join us next week as we welcome back Olof the Anarcho Viking to talk about the anime classic, "Spirited Away".

  • Episode 146 - Straight Outta Compton (1:18:11)
We are back to discuss "Straight Outta Compton" with the Afrolibertarian. NWA unleashed a whole new genre of music, telling stories of how it is in their neighborhood and with a brash tone that called immediate attention to their daily plight. They found a large audience, even out in suburban America, to make an indelible impact that stays with us to this day.
This is a sentimental journey that only scratches the surface of all the topics we wanted to discuss. Per our guest's recommendation in our post-show bonus content, if you want a fuller picture of the story check out "The Defiant Ones" on HBO.
Catch us next week as we discuss Clint Eastwood's "The Mule" with returning guest, Rocky Ferrenburg.

  • Episode 145 - Back to the Future (1:15:32)
Great Scott! We smash that accelerator to hit 88 MPH as we analyze "Back to the Future" with our friend, Doc Brown. No, not the Doc Brown from the movie, but the one who joined us for "The Shining" and "It" almost two long years ago. Prepare to generate 1.21 Gigawatts and get your damn hands off her.
We get into some conspiracy and predictions from the film and also talk about whether we’d be willing to go back to 1955 ourselves - and give up all the improved standard of living since then. We also talk about how even the DeLorean was a casualty of the drug war.
We shall return next week to discuss "Straight Outta Compton" with the Afrolibertarian.

  • Episode 144 - The Warriors (1:14:42)
We're hitting up "The Warriors" this time around with one of our favourite returning guests.
The armies of the night number 100,000; they outnumber the police 5 to 1; and tonight they’re after the Warriors. We talk about how the Cops are the biggest gang of them all.
Mike C. made a concept album using some clips worth checking out from our show notes page.
    Can....you....dig....it?
We’ll back in time next week and discuss "Back to the Future" with our friend, Doc Brown.

  • Episode 143 - Molly's Game (1:15:35)
We get our poker-face on and talk about Molly's Game where we learn when to hold ‘em, and when to fold ‘em. It’s a story about a driven, former Olympic-level athlete who had a horrific accident and devoted her intense, focused energy on becoming a success at running celebrity, high-stakes poker games with the elite - and the ensuing fallout.
We’ll be back next week with one of our favourite guests, Mike C. to discuss one of his favourite movies, the Warriors.

  • Episode 142 - Chernobyl (1:16:48)
We invite the guys behind Free Markets, Green Earth to come on and talk about the riveting HBO docuseries, Chernobyl. The events of the disaster were unknown to me until watching this series and it was an eye-opening experience on how bureaucracy creates problems and the heroism of everyday people solves them.
We will return next week to review the movie, Molly's Game.

Jeff Bridges stars as a country singer in this film, so we bring on a friend who also sings country to talk about it.
Scott M. is a Texas-based musician that enjoys good music, good books, and long naps. He plays shows and weddings and even runs a trivia night each week, until his demands are met. Scott’s a strong advocate for freedom who is constantly engaging with people on Facebook, especially when it comes to policing and civil asset forfeiture and other crimes, trying to move the needle back toward liberty.
Join us next week as we start a two-parter crossover episode with the guys from Free Markets, Green Earth as we discuss the HBO Miniseries, Chernobyl.

About Actual Anarchy Podcast - AnCap Movie Reviews from a Rothbardian Perspective

From the publisher's feed

In the spirit of the great “Mister First Nighter”, Murray Rothbard’s movie critic review pen name, Robert and I analyze popular movies from a Anarcho-Capitalist perspective.
