  • Episode 70 - The Last Supper (1:00:30)
Happy Easter everyone. We do a movie with a namesake related to the holiday and discuss 1996's, "The Last Supper". It's about the type of people who think they are so smart and can fix everything wrong with the world, if it weren't for the backwards heathens preventing them. Their smug solution is of course: murder
Just like all the totalitarian dictators (democratic or otherwise), just on a smaller scale.
We hope you enjoy this unstructured, if lively discussion, where Robert and I are at odds on the film.

Robert and I analyze popular movies from a Rothbardian/AnarchoCapitalist perspective.
We use movies as a starting point for people who may not be familiar with this way of thinking.   Discussion of the plot and decisions that characters make in relation to morality and violations of the non-aggression principle are our bread and butter.
We also will highlight and discuss any themes or lessons from Austrian Economics that we can glean from the film.
The point is to show what anarchy actually is with instances that are presented in film.
We publish at least once per week; and occasionally will do specials surrounding holidays or events (elections/olympics) and have guests.

  • Episode 69 - Billy Madison (48:48)
Back to school. Back to school. To prove to dad that I'm not a fool.
    Hahahaha. Shut up.
We are back at it again with episode 69 of the podcast talking about the generational cult classic Adam Sandler flick, Billy Madison. This one is mostly talking about the ridiculousness of the plot and some of the funny quotes and bizarre scenes, but we hope you enjoy it.

  • Episode 68 - The Big Lebowski - (51:39)
    Where's the money Lebowski?
We go over the line and talk about the Big Lebowski. A film that came out 20 years ago and still holds up to this day. A strong cast of characters pulls this movie together with witty dialogue and comedy gold that is best watched under a strict regimen of intoxicants.
We just checked in to see what condition our condition was in.

  • Episode 67 - The Pursuit of Happyness (59:14)
We discuss the Will Smith film, "The Pursuit of Happyness" and get into a heated debate over whether this is an inspirational story about an entrepreneurial dreamer, or a guy with misplaced priorities making stupid choices and putting his child at risk. This is a fun one.
Will Smith stars in this moving tale inspired by the true story about a struggling single father who dreams of a better life for his young son. Finding themselves homeless, he risks everything by embarking on an unpaid internship in a highly competitive stockbroker training program where only one in twenty interns make the grade.

  • Episode 66 - Cars (54:23)
We get our kicks on Route 66 doing an analysis of the Disney/Pixar film, Cars. It has a luddite-ish “buy local” message, which has a nostalgic element, but at a cost of a lower standard of living. Still, there is enough story and character arc to make it a pleasant enough watch.

  • Episode 65 - Blade Runner 2049 (47:55)
Robert and I take a dive into the world of Blade Runner where warrants aren't necessary and either is a scrolling text that is large enough to read.
This was a followup to the cult-classic, sci-fi film noir, Blade Runner where replicants and humans have a rocky coexistence once free will is discovered by the replicant slaves.
This is a beautiful movie that has taken great care in the craft of film making, has a deliberate pace that realizes the vision of the director. Unfortunately, they miss the off-world ship about having a coherent story. We get into it.

  • Episode 64 - I Saw the Devil (52:47)
In what may become a routine feature, we do a foreign film from South Korea that has a bit of a cult following in the US, I Saw the Devil. This one is timely as the Olympics are currently taking place there and has plenty on offer.
It's a story of revenge where the aggrieved party takes justice into their own hands, and fights fire with fire, becoming the monster he is hunting.
Kyung-chul (Choi Min-sik) is a dangerous psychopath who kills for pleasure. He has committed infernal serial murders in diabolic ways that one cannot even imagine and his victims range from young women to even children. The police have chased him for a long time, but were unable to catch him. One day, Joo-yeon, daughter of a retired police chief becomes his prey and is found dead in a horrific state. Her fiance Soo-hyun (Lee Byung-hun), a top secret agent, decides to track down the murderer himself. He promises himself that he will do everything in his power to take bloody vengeance against the killer, even if it means that he must become a monster himself to get this monstrous and inhumane killer.
We expect to have Patrick MacFarlane of Liberty Weekly on to discuss this film and any other rabbit-trails we go down during the inaugural episode of our new hangout-style/conversation show to be called "Boys Night Out" where all guests and listeners must identify as a man for the duration of the show.

Can you feel the love tonight? Robert and I eviscerate Disney's The Lion King faster than goose-stepping hyenas turned on Scar. We hope you enjoy this one where we take on monarchy, democracy, time preference, trespassing, self-defense, social ostracism, plot holes, and animation....and so close to Valentine's Day. Enjoy!

  • Episode 62 - Groundhog Day (47:38)
We go back to the Bill Murray well....again. It's Groundhog Day on the Actual Anarchy Podcast. A movie that despite being 25 years old now, holds up very well.
Bill Murray is at his wry, wisecracking best in this riotous romantic comedy about a weatherman caught in a personal time warp on the worst day of his life. Teamed with a relentlessly cheerful producer (Andie MacDowell) and a smart-aleck cameraman (Chris Elliott), TV weatherman Phil Connors (Bill Murray) is sent to Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, to cover the annual Groundhog Day festivities. After a surprise blizzard traps him in small-town hell, things get even worse; Phil wakes the next morning to find it’s GROUNDHOG DAY all over again… and again… and again.

  • Episode 61 - Ghost in the Shell (1:15:21)
We invite a returning guest, Liam Cardenas, to discuss the Ghost in the Shell. We primarily focus on the newer ScarJo version, but also discuss the original anime.
Major (Scarlett Johansson) is the first of her kind: a human mind inside an artificial body. Discovering her creators lied about her past life to control her, Major will stop at nothing to unravel the mystery of her true identity and exact revenge.
We get into a lively conversation that runs a bit longer than we intend for the new format, but we think it is well worth it.
