  • 31. 31 Nights of Frights 4: The Shining (1980) By Stanley Kubrick & The Shining (1997) By Mick Garris
Happy Halloween! Night thirty-one closes out with a grudge match between the original Stanley Kubrick directed, The Shining and the 1997 Mick Garris directed remake. Both films are unsurprisingly similar with the remake taking some chances in an effort to e closer to the novel. Which film should you check out and is the 1997 version worth a watch?
Have a listen to find out my thoughts about the original 1980 adaptation & 1997 remake of The Shining on the final night of year four of 3 Nights of Frights!!

  • 30. 31 Nights of Frights 4: Doctor Sleep (2019) By Mike Flanagan

Night thirty brings us to The Shining sequel that we never knew we needed with the Mike Flanagan directed, Doctor Sleep. On my original viewing of this one, I was honestly floored with how good it was. Did my rewatch yield the same result? Can you believe that we are only ONE day away from Halloween?

Have a listen to night thirty to find out what I thought about this one!!

  • 29. 31 Nights of Frights 4: Carrie (1976) By Brian De Palma & Carrie (2013) By Kimberly Pierce

For night twenty-nine we have a grudge match between a tale of two different adaptations of Carrie!! Originally made by Brian De Palma in 1976, MGM decided it was a film that needed to be remade in 2013 with director Kimberly Pierce at the helm for that version. Both films tell a tale of how cruel our peers can be to one another & bully someone just because they are different. We also have a bit of a revenge tale that we as the audience  , can empathize with the title character.

Which one is my preferred version with my opinion of one being Great & one simply being good? Have a listen & find out which one I think you should check out!!

  • 28. 31 Nights of Frights 4: Rose Red (2002) By Craig R. Baxley

Night twenty-eight takes us to Stephen King's unofficial adaptation of the Haunting or The Haunting of Hill House, the title differs depending on whether you know it by the film or book title. This ABC miniseries event was actually written by King and directed by Craig R. Baxley. It also had the honor of being one of ABC's most expensive TV projects of that time.

Have a listen to see if taking a trip to Rose Red is one well worth taking!!

  • 27. 31 Nights of Frights 4: The Mist (2007) By Frank Darabont

For night twenty-seven we visit the Frank Darabont directed, The Mist. A film that originally divided audiences mostly because of its shock ending, The Mist also works as a classically styled survival horror story. This is also a fun film that feels like a precursor to the work that Frank Darbont would later provide on the Walking Dead, especially since this film shares a lot of the same actors that would later appear on the Walking Dead.

Have a listen to hear my thoughts on The Mist, which I consider to be an underrated classic!!

  • 26. 31 Nights of Frights 4: Sometimes They Come Back (1991) By Tom McLoughlin

For night twenty-six, we find out that sometimes they come back in the tom McLoughlin directed...ummm...Sometimes They Come Back! A film that may be more of a drama with horror tones, yet has some great horrific practical effects & makeup. It is all the more surprising that this was a film made and released as a tv film for CBS.

What did I think of this adaptation that doesn't seem to be mentioned or even fondly remembered? Have a listen and find out on night 26 of 31 Nights of Frights!!

  • 25. 31 Nights of Frights 4: The Langoliers (1995) By Tom Holland

Hey remember that ABC miniseries that featured Bronson Pinchot from Perfect Strangers who is with a few other passengers on American Pride flight 29, which goes into another time period & these survivors are pursued by things that appear to be giant meatballs with sharp teeth? If you do remember that then you know that, for night twenty-five, I am talking about the adaptation of The Langoliers!

Have a listen to find out what I thought about this one & if it's a worthy edition to Stephen King adaptations!

  • 24. 31 Night of Frights 4: Cell (2016) By Tod Williams

Night twenty-four of 31 Nights of Frights takes us to the Tod Williams adaptation of the novel, Cell. Cell is often seen as a low point of Stephen King adaptations & I honestly can't argue with that...Especially since the source was a quick & fun read. A Stephen King take on the zombie genre which has all the ingredients for a fun film, yet never gets there.

Have a listen to hear my thoughts on this one and why its an often overlooked film that maybe should stay that way...or not?!!?

  • 23. 31 Nights of Frights 4: Riding the Bullet (2004) By Mick Garris

For night twenty-three, I had my girlfriend, Nicole, join me for a discussion on the Mick Garris directed adaptation of Riding the Bullet. Based off of a somewhat obscure novella, this also had the honor of being one of the more unique films presented in this years 31 Nights of Frights, mostly due to some creative choices from Mick Garris.

So lets ride the bullet & have a listen as Nicole & I discuss our thoughts on this extremely different Mick Garris directed dramatic horror!
