April 02, 2020Jamison Fear can be a guideJamison shares a story about what happens when you set out on a goal and something that seems like a bad circumstance derails your goals and alters the trajectory of your life but this thing that at first seems like the worst situation becomes a new opportunity in the not to distant future. This is the position that Jamison found himself in as he sat alone for hours on top of a mountain waiting for a rescue squad to come help him back down the mountain… he had just broken his leg and his goal of getting back into the military had just taken a downturn. But Jamison changed his mindset focused on a new mission and taught himself how to code during his downtime with a broken leg. Now that we are in the middle of a lockdown this new skill has served Jamison well and he has been booking more and more clients and leveling up his skills. Fear can help set your direction and if you are not scared then maybe you aren’t challenging yourself. March 31, 2020Michael Letting employees goMichael shares his experience of having to let people go during this hard economic downturn. The fear of having the conversation was really heavy and scary for him at first but he realized that once he had it the people who worked from him understood. He mentions a lot of interesting things during our conversation - about company culture and a mantra that is super helpful to think about: Sonder which he explained to me as "The profound feeling of realizing that everyone, including strangers passed in the street, has a life as complex as one's own”. This is a important perspective to come back to as a way to remember that other people are also dealing with stresses and pains and fears - so it can help remind us to be a little kinder to each other especially during stressful times.
