March 31, 2020Michael Letting employees goMichael shares his experience of having to let people go during this hard economic downturn. The fear of having the conversation was really heavy and scary for him at first but he realized that once he had it the people who worked from him understood. He mentions a lot of interesting things during our conversation - about company culture and a mantra that is super helpful to think about: Sonder which he explained to me as "The profound feeling of realizing that everyone, including strangers passed in the street, has a life as complex as one's own”. This is a important perspective to come back to as a way to remember that other people are also dealing with stresses and pains and fears - so it can help remind us to be a little kinder to each other especially during stressful times.
