Today i had the pleasure of speaking with Chris about feeling social anxiety when he was younger, around the time of high school and college. Chris found it scary to talk to strangers and make friends early on but there came a time when he was sitting in his room alone and he thought to himself that he was going to make a change… a big change and he would put himself out into the world more and start saying YES to life’s opportunities. He knew deep down that he had a ton of value inside to offer if he was given the chance to meet more people. Chris began to go to every event that he could signup for and any time someone invited him to do something he would accept the invitation — his old self might shy away but this new self was going to make an effort and see who in the world he could meet. It wasn’t long before people started recognizing Chris around campus and coming up to him to say hi. What an amazing feeling and saying Yes to our fears! Yikes… what do you do when you get that promotion, more pay, and really do love to travel but you a completely afraid of flying? Michael shared with me some amazing tips and thoughts about how he took incremental steps and found tactics to help him get into a headspace where he could accept the promotion and get onto the airplane and fly.
