What is a recovery companion and who needs one, anyway? This week, Dr. Allen Berger, author and PHD in Clinical Psychology in private practice, will enlighten us on this relatively new career path in the field of addiction. It is the concept of a recovery companion and the opening of his first training facility (IRC, the Institute for Recovery Companions) that makes Dr. Berger unique in this discussion. You might remember Dr. Berger from a previous show titled “The Therapeutic Value of the Twelve Steps” where he explained to us in a very concise yet eloquent manner, just what the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous is all about.
On this week’s show he presents the concept, certification procedure, and qualifications of a recovery companion, as well as a discourse on the different responsibilities of a recovery companion and a 12 step sponsor.
