  • #68 SLM Solutions CEO discusses Free Float 3D printing
On this episode of the Additive Insight podcast, TCT Head of Content Laura Griffiths is joined by Sam O’Leary, CEO at metal additive manufacturing company SLM Solutions.
With around 650 machines installed globally, the selective laser melting pioneer’s technology has been adopted everywhere from optimised metal components at Bugatti to landing gear at bizjet. But for this episode, we caught up with Sam to chat about SLM’s latest development – Free Float – a new technology that promises to deliver on the design freedom’s afforded by additive through “support-free” 3D printing.
We also talk about the NXG XII 600 machine, a huge system launched last year equipped with 12-lasers, the latest applications, and how this most recent development could accelerate the adoption of additive in production.

  • #67 DyeMansion CEO on turning 3D printed parts into high-value products
On this episode of the Additive Insight podcast, we're continuing our Executive Interview series, this time with Co-founder and CEO of DyeMansion, Felix Ewald.
The Munich-based company is a manufacturer of post-processing systems for 3D printed parts. As you’ll hear in this conversation, DyeMansion was founded as a by-product of another project founded by DyeMansion’s two co-founders back in 2013 centred around 3D printing custom smart phone cases. After facing challenges around adding the perfect colour finish to their products, they decided to develop their own solution and, with backing by EOS founder Hans Langer, the team is now behind some of the industry’s most popular finishing systems for AM polymer parts.
Ewald discusses DyeMansion’s next-generation machines, why post-processing needs to be considered throughout the 3D printing workflow and why sustainability in additive needs to be taken seriously.

  • #66 Desktop Metal acquires Aerosint & Fast Radius goes public
For July's Additive Insight Editorial Roundtable, TCT's Head of Content Laura Griffiths and Senior Content Producer Sam Davies discuss the biggest 3D printing and additive manufacturing news from the last month.
The trend for AM acquisitions continues as Desktop Metal, a company which has already brought a number of technologies into the fold over the last year, has acquired multi-material 3D printing firm Aerosint, a technology that Ric Fulop, founder and CEO of Desktop Metal called “the next frontier in AM." It wouldn’t be an episode of Additive Insight without at least one mention of a company going public. This time it’s the turn of Fast Radius, a digital manufacturing service provider, which is set to become a publicly listed company on the NASDAQ after entering into a business combination with ECP Environmental Growth Opportunities Corp. Plus we've got launch news from Roboze which has announced its large-format ARGO 1000 3D printer designed for processing "super polymers and composites", and SPEE3D has received $1.5 million in funding to 'pioneer the manufacturing of high-quality, inexpensive metal 3D printed rocket engines for space.’

  • #65 Digital Manufacturing Centre founder on 3D printing & UK innovation
On today’s episode we have a conversation with Kieron Salter, founder of the UK’s Digital Manufacturing Centre, which officially opens its doors at Silverstone Park this week.
The engineering-led facility promises to be a real hub of additive and digital manufacturing, delivering industrial scale production, and education, for industries such as motorsport, aerospace and more.
Here, Salter talks to TCT about solving manufacturing challenges with digital solutions, the opportunities for advanced engineering in the UK, and how he hopes the DMC can be a reference site for what’s possible with new manufacturing technologies.
TCT also took an exclusive first look behind the scenes at the facility, which you can now go watch here or on our Youtube channel: https://mytct.co/3kW6TDs

  • #64 SLM Solutions introduces Free Float + Markforged teases new 3D printer
On this Additive Insight Editorial Roundtable, TCT's Head of Content Laura Griffiths and Senior Content Producer Sam Davies discuss the biggest 3D printing and additive manufacturing news from the last month.
We kick things off with Markforged and perhaps the most organised Formnext announcement to date with a teaser for a new composite 3D printer that's been described by CEO Shai Terem as a "beast of a machine".  We also have news from SLM Solutions which just launched its new Free Float software solution and promises high productivity, reduced costs and post-processing, and previously unachievable designs. Elsewhere, we discuss how Volkswagen has set a target of producing 100,000 additively manufactured components at its Wolfsburg facility each year by 2025 using HP binder jet technology, and 3D Systems sale of its On Demand Manufacturing Business as it continues full speed ahead with its four phase plan to focus on industrial-scale additive manufacturing adoption.
