We welcome Kelly and Tabitha to the program to talk about suicide prevention, and their org - "Break the Silence" that is located here in Fort Morgan. They share what brought them to create the org, and why they continue to work in the community. We talk about how to help others in real-time and also in the digital world plus explain the stigma that surrounds this subject. Their website is https://www.breakthesilenceinc.org/.
Aaron (The Educator) sits down with Kelly (our resident wrestling coach at the gym) and Siobahn (Lady Gladiator training and wrestling coach) to talk about what brought them here, why they've got their two sons in the program, what it means to them, and why you should join. Ignore the sounds of a mildly snoring background person, and stick around for a story of two people finding meaning, purpose, and a better healthier future ahead of them.
We're back with two of our strong boxers Jorel and Mike talking about what brought them to the gym. Conversations about life, having a philosophy about it all, and how we're looking to engage and serve in the community. We also talk about the power of boxing as therapy to help you get our of your own way and be stronger mentally and physically.
A new podcast is here! Come for Ernie Marquez's story of life starting in Pueblo, CO, and then becoming a man in Fort Morgan, CO. Stay to hear him and Chris Sturgeon (our head wrestling coach) talk about what the gym has become, and what the future holds. Two to three episodes of this show to come every month, so get ready!
Aaron's here talking about a statue in Chicago and connecting to a Confederate monument he stood in front of in Augusta, GA. Then he talks about school reopening article, and digs into the complexities of it all.
I'm talking about two articles in the WSJ this weekend. One is on the Rubix Cube and is featured on the front page at the bottom while the other is an article about letting our minds wander and if that's a good thing. This is an experimental episode that may happen every Saturday with me (and others) finding articles in the WSJ or others that have connections to teaching etc.
A new segment in our podcast - activities and things that have to be shared with the world because we think they're so cool! Today is my model in answering the prompt for a speech about advice to middle school students.
Four months later, and Aaron is back talking about what that time has been like, and how he's fared in the COVID teaching time. Then it's time to update on the bright future of this little podcast channel and what you can expect as we hurtle towards the middle of 2021!
Back in July, I spoke with @EScottEngland about a great many topics - all-around education, teaching, and what we are doing, what we're going to do, and what we should be doing. Lots of good conversation, discussion, and thoughts on a great number of topics. @EScottEngland is a Superintendent of schools and has been working much of his life in education. He hosts his own podcast at https://www.escottengland.com/ titled "Anchored in Education".
It's another long episode, this time with @MatRyanELATeach from twitter. We talk about Canon, we talk about reading, we talk about teaching reading, and so much more. This was recorded in July so keep that in mind as you listen.
