  • Late-Diagnosed ADHD, Nervous System Awareness, and Learning to Pause

Today Jessica talks with Nicole Hope, author of "Calm Is Power," about ADHD, stress, and the surprising power of learning to listen to the body.

Nicole shares how years of anxiety, overwork, and physical burnout eventually led her to a deeper understanding of nervous system regulation, behavior, and what true calm can actually look like.

This conversation also explores the connection between body awareness and decision-making, the overlap between ADHD and stress, and why self-knowledge can create more choice, clarity, and ease in everyday life.

    Inside this episode:

    • How Nicole moved from overwhelm into a deeper understanding of her body
    • Why stress often shows up physically before it becomes obvious mentally
    • What “behavior intelligence” means and why it matters
    • How body awareness can improve relationships and daily decision-making
    • Why the morning is the best time to check in with your nervous system
    • How ADHD brains benefit from simple, accessible practices instead of pressure
    • Why pause, not perfection, is the foundation of real change

This conversation is a powerful reminder that calm isn’t about eliminating stress or getting everything “right”—it’s about learning to notice what’s happening in your body and creating a little more space to choose what comes next. Nicole’s insights offer a practical, compassionate way to better understand ourselves, especially for ADHD brains that can spend so much time pushing through. Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do isn’t to try harder—it’s to pause, listen, and pay attention.

  • ADHD Overwhelm and Burnout: Building A System That Actually Works

Today Jessica talks to Monica Walston about ADHD overwhelm, burnout, and the relief that comes from building a structure that actually fits your brain.

Monica shares what it was like to realize she had ADHD in her 40s, how shame shows up when overwhelm turns into shutdown, and why perfectionism kept getting in the way of progress.

This conversation also gets into the real-life pressure of managing multiple platforms, multiple creative identities, and the constant demand to “just stay on top of it all.”

    Inside this episode:

    • What it feels like to discover ADHD later in life and finally have the pieces make sense
    • Why detail orientation can be helpful in one area and brutal in another
    • How Monica found a content system that reduces overwhelm instead of adding to it
    • Why structure only works when you help build it
    • What shame and rumination can look like when ADHD gets overloaded
    • How creativity, movement, and stepping away can help you get unstuck
    • Why compassion matters so much when you’re already carrying too much

  • Is ADHD a Superpower? My Honest Take.
Plot twist: today it’s just me.

Several recent guests have described ADHD as a superpower, and listeners who know me well have asked why I didn’t correct them. The short answer is that there was nothing to correct. If calling ADHD a superpower helps someone understand and embrace their experience, I’m not going to take that away from them.

But the word doesn’t work for me. Growing up undiagnosed, I heard that I had so much potential, if only I could focus, apply myself, or stop making careless mistakes. “Superpower” can accidentally add to that pressure—and it can make the very real struggles of ADHD feel invisible.

So here’s my hot take: don’t yuck someone else’s yum. If “superpower” works for you, rock on. If it doesn’t, you’re safe with me, too.

This is a brief solo episode and a bit of an experiment. If you enjoy these little chats, please leave a comment on your podcast platform or send me an email to let me know what you think—and what you’d like me to yap about next.

  • ADHD in Women: Emotional Regulation, Justice Sensitivity, and Building a Business That Fits Your Brain

What does ADHD look like in women who were labeled “smart but not applying themselves”? In this episode with Kim Steen, we explore late-diagnosed ADHD, emotional dysregulation, justice sensitivity, time blindness, task paralysis, and entrepreneurship. You’ll hear how interest-based nervous systems shape school performance, why impulsivity can fuel small business success, and how movement supports focus and regulation.

We also discuss ADHD and shame, family dynamics, rejection sensitivity, connection needs, and the difference between social media interaction and real human contact. This episode highlights both the challenges and strengths of ADHD in women — especially for moms, business owners, and highly sensitive people.

So many women with ADHD grew up hearing the same message: You’re smart. You just need to try harder.

In this conversation, we unpack what happens when a bright, curious, justice-driven child grows up without knowing she has an interest-based nervous system. We explore the grief of late diagnosis, the relief of finally understanding your brain, and the complicated emotions that come with both.

You’ll hear about emotional regulation and what it actually looks like in real life — the flushed face, the anxious chest, the pause before replying. We talk about justice sensitivity, impulsivity, and why asking “why?” was often labeled as talking back instead of curiosity.

This episode also highlights ADHD strengths in entrepreneurship — risk-taking, creativity, openness, and the ability to make people feel seen. There’s an honest look at time management struggles, task paralysis, single parenting, shame patterns in family systems, and the deep need for authentic, in-person connection.

At its core, this conversation is about creating spaces — in business and in life — where people feel accepted exactly as they are.

  • Why ADHD Looks Like “Wandering” — And Why That’s Actually a Strength

"ADHD wandering" is often misunderstood as distraction or lack of direction—but for many neurodivergent adults, it’s actually a powerful way of thinking, learning, and creating impact.

In this episode with Dr. LaToya Hinton, we explore how ADHD curiosity, nonlinear career paths, and pattern recognition fuel innovation, leadership, and community building—especially for women navigating business, academia, and social impact work.

    We discuss:

    • Why ADHD “wandering” is often mistaken for not having a plan
    • How curiosity and dabbling strengthen long-term career success
    • ADHD, masking, and being overlooked for diagnosis
    • Why anxiety and depression are often misdiagnosed instead of ADHD
    • Neurodivergent strengths like pattern recognition and systems thinking
    • The importance of community building for ADHD entrepreneurs and leaders
    • Reframing ADHD from pathology to possibility

This conversation is especially meaningful for women with ADHD who feel misunderstood, professionals with nonlinear careers, and anyone who’s been told they’re “all over the place” when they’re actually connecting the dots.

  • ADHD Systems That Actually Work: How High Performers Build Structure Without Shame

Today, Jessica talks to Jordan Barker—tech leader, mom of two, and emerging coach—about what it really looks like to work with an ADHD brain instead of constantly fighting it.

Diagnosed in early childhood, Jordan brings a rare perspective: she’s spent her life not just aware of ADHD, but actively designing systems that allow her to thrive in high-performance environments like Microsoft and Azure.

But this isn’t a conversation about rigid productivity hacks or “fixing” yourself.

    It’s about something much deeper:

👉 How to trust your brain

👉 How to reduce cognitive load

👉 And how to build systems that actually support your life (instead of becoming another thing you fail at)

You’ll also hear a powerful reframe that might completely shift how you relate to your thoughts:

You can’t control your first thought—but you can control your second.

    In this episode, we explore:
    • Why ADHD can feel like a “deficiency” in childhood—but a superpower in adulthood
    • The hidden cost of thinking faster than everyone else (and how to bring people with you)
    • What “systems” really mean—and why they’re essential for ADHD brains
    • How to reduce cognitive load by separating thinking from doing
    • Why systems break (and how to rebuild without spiraling into shame)
    • The difference between reacting to your life vs. leading it
    • Why “editing” is easier than starting from scratch—and how to use that to your advantage

If you’ve ever thought, “I shouldn’t need this much structure just to function,” this episode will feel like a deep exhale.

  • ADHD, Fear of Growth, and Modeling Bravery for Your Child

Living with ADHD often means learning how to manage fear, self-doubt, and the feeling of being “stuck”—especially when you’re also trying to model courage and growth for your child.

In this episode, Ryan Vik shares her lifelong experience with ADHD, being diagnosed young, rejecting shame, and slowly learning how to push past fear by doing things before she feels ready. From creating “mini-adventures” with her son to starting a private dog park, Ryan reflects on how small acts of bravery can change how we live—and how our kids learn to live too.

    We talk about:

    • Growing up with an early ADHD diagnosis
    • Fear of trying new things and feeling stagnant in adulthood
    • Modeling growth, courage, and self-trust for your child
    • Mini-adventures as a way to reframe everyday life
    • Why discomfort is often the gateway to growth
    • ADHD, structure, and the urge to rebel against routines
    • Creating just enough structure to feel calm, not trapped
    • How clutter, environment, and visual overwhelm affect the ADHD brain
    • Letting go of “should” and replacing it with “could”
    • Building confidence by doing things imperfectly
    • Starting a passion project without knowing the outcome

Ryan also shares the story behind Paws and Relax, a private dog park created from love, grief, and a willingness to try—proof that you don’t need a perfect plan to build something meaningful.

This episode is for parents with ADHD, adults who feel stuck or afraid to grow, and anyone who wants to live more fully without waiting to feel “ready.”

  • Late ADHD Diagnosis in Women: Misdiagnosis, Self-Advocacy, and Learning to Work With Your Brain

What if the thing you’ve been told is depression… isn’t the full story?

In this episode, we talk with Mindi Alexander about what it’s like to finally recognize ADHD as an adult — especially after years of feeling misunderstood, misdiagnosed, and overwhelmed by treatments that never quite addressed the real problem.

Our guest shares her journey through autoimmune illness, multiple specialists, and a growing frustration with being prescribed more and more medications without deeper questions being asked. Eventually, she trusted her intuition enough to push for answers — and discovering ADHD changed everything.

    We talk about:

    • Why ADHD in women is often misdiagnosed as depression or anxiety
    • The experience of being dismissed by clinicians when something feels “off”
    • What it takes to advocate for yourself in the healthcare system
    • The emotional relief of finally having an explanation
    • Why ADHD symptoms can shift throughout life stages
    • The painful cycle of organizing perfectly… only to watch things unravel again
    • Object permanence and everyday ADHD moments (like losing things already in your hand)
    • The guilt and mental load of balancing work, family, and entrepreneurship
    • Why ADHD brains often struggle to shut down at night
    • How intentional transition rituals can help shift from work mode to home mode
    • Rejection sensitivity and the tendency to take small signals personally
    • Why ADHD doesn’t mean you’re broken — it means you need different systems

We also explore the courage it takes to start a passion business later in life while navigating ADHD, health challenges, and the emotional weight of wanting everything to work.

If you’ve ever wondered whether your diagnosis tells the whole story…

If you’ve felt dismissed by professionals who didn’t fully hear you…

Or if you’re learning how to work with your brain instead of fighting it…

This conversation will remind you that your intuition matters — and advocating for yourself can change everything.

  • How Neurodivergent Trauma Shapes Relationships, Time Blindness, and Self-Trust

What if the hardest parts of ADHD aren’t about focus or productivity — but about relationships, shame, and feeling safe with other people?

In this episode with Harris Eddie Hill, we explore how neurodivergent brains are shaped by early relational experiences, especially when childhood includes chronic criticism, misunderstanding, or unmet emotional needs. You’ll hear why ADHD and autistic children receive significantly more negative feedback than their peers, and how that erodes trust, belonging, and self-confidence over time.

We talk about relational trauma, attachment patterns, and why neurodivergent adults often end up in one-sided friendships or unstable relationships — even after years of insight and talk therapy. There’s also a deep dive into time perception, time blindness, and why being late has nothing to do with disrespect and everything to do with dopamine, stress, and nonlinear thinking.

This conversation reframes hyperfocus, curiosity, and self-advocacy as strengths — not flaws — and offers a compassionate path toward asking for accommodations, trusting your nervous system, and building relationships that actually fit your brain.

The ADHD Alchemy Podcast is where bright, sensitive women finally stop masking and start thriving—with clarity, confidence, and shameless potential.

We’re sharing real stories that help us turn friction into flow, liability into leverage, and resistance into rhythm. If your brain feels like a thousand tabs are open and five radio stations are playing at once, you’re in the right place!

I’m Jessica Covington and I’ve always had a slightly different way of doing things, including ADHD. In my work, we leverage the body-mind connection to harness the beautiful potential you’ve always known is there but haven’t been able to use. My guests and I are here to help you quiet the shame, trust yourself again, and create a life that feels calm, focused, and fully yours.

These are the stories of women like us: the ones who think differently; who’ve tried every damn system, planner, and app but nothing sticks; who’ve spent years and all their energy trying to seem "normal"; and who are finally ready to see ADHD without shame, guilt, or apology.

Stick with us here to remember you are NOT a failure, you’re not alone in the chaos, and you are certainly not deficient or disordered.

  • ADHD, Big Ideas, and Learning to Say No Without Burning Out

For many women with ADHD or executive function challenges, life is full of big ideas, constant motion, and relentless pressure to do it all—until burnout hits.

In this episode, Heather Cleverly shares what it’s been like navigating entrepreneurship, motherhood, leadership, and a possible late ADHD diagnosis while learning how to simplify instead of constantly pushing harder.

From running multiple businesses to renovating a home, parenting a child with ADHD, and leading a community of women entrepreneurs, Heather reflects on what happens when high-functioning turns into overwhelm—and why saying no can actually open the door to deeper focus, creativity, and growth.

    We talk about:

    • Suspecting ADHD later in life through your child’s diagnosis
    • High-functioning women and missed diagnoses
    • Big ideas, hyperfocus, and burnout cycles
    • Shame and guilt around inconsistency and follow-through
    • Why “doing all the things” stops working
    • The power of transparency with teams and collaborators
    • Delegation, scaling, and letting go of control in business
    • Why saying no creates better yeses
    • Simplifying to reduce overwhelm and increase impact
    • ADHD as a creative and strategic advantage

Heather also shares how building the Magnolia Collective and scaling Magnolia Black helped her see that success doesn’t come from doing everything—it comes from focusing on the right things and building support around you.

This episode is for women entrepreneurs, leaders, and creatives who feel overwhelmed by their own ambition and are ready to trade burnout for clarity.

    You don’t need fewer ideas.

    You need fewer plates.
