ADHD Neuroscience Educator and Researcher Angel Kaur PhD

Listen Later

Oh what a great interview here! Our wonderful guest today is the third PhD who we’ve had on this podcast who is not a PhD in ADHD. Angel Kaur PhD is an Assistant Professor of Neuroscience at UNC Asheville and the keeper of the podcast Club Kaur. Her scientific background is in cell and molecular neurobiology, and her experiences in the classroom over the last 6 years have inspired her to take on STEM education research. Her research interests include strategies to build skills in reading scientific literature, ways to instruct students on effective science communication to a range of audiences, and whether use of interdisciplinary materials can enhance student engagement and learning of science. These goals led to the creation of Club Kaur, a podcast on all things related to the teaching, learning, and communication of science, produced in close collaboration with undergraduate students at UNC Asheville, and featuring work done entirely by them as part of her classes. Interdisciplinarity is at the core of her work, whether she is teaching students about the neurobiology of pain, or principles of film form. She credits her ability to do this to ADHD. Her interdisciplinary work with students resulted in her receiving a teaching award at UNC Asheville in 2019, and a nomination for the Society for Neuroscience Educator Award. Enjoy!
