Welcome back to Admire the Vegans Podcast! It has been a while so we are excited to get back and talk about what's been going on. The Big Topic is Anna's 'Leap of Faith.' For many years, Anna lived in the comfort zone, but over the past two years she's aligned many thing in her life that has resulted in an unmistakable growth in confidence. And this January she decided it was time to finally take the leap our of her comfort zone and chase a lifelong dream of being her own business owner.
We also talk about 'What's on our Mind' including an incredible Ag Gag case in Iowa that involves animal activist's, Direct Action Everywhere, uncovering of a mass ventilation shutdown at Iowa Select Farms. In the Spring of 2020, thousands of pigs were being roasted alive and left for waste but it was the people that caught this execution on camera that were being prosecuted. Michael discusses that plus the new New York Mayor's change to more plant-based meals in NYC Public Schools.

In this conversation, we welcome Anna's sister, Kaitie Lagan. Two years ago Kaitie and her husband moved their three children from the suburbs to acreage in rural Central Iowa. The new home provided a breath of fresh air and a chance for Kaitie to fulfill a lifelong dream of having farm animals. Being a mother, and at the time, caring for three goats and two alpacas she started connecting dots. After an internal conversation, Kaitie forced herself to learn more about the animal agriculture industry and what she saw led her to veganism. A change that she says, "felt like a weight had been lifted off me that I didn't know was there."
Kaitie has been vegan for nearly two years and is the caretaker of 20 formerly farmed animals. Her compassion, work ethic and continued pursuit of living an aligned life is an inspiration to us so we wanted her to share her story with all of you!

From Carl's 5K at the Iowa Farm Sanctuary to the personal challenge of participating in the 10th Annual GOATZ Trail Runs we had the most fulfilling road trip of our lives.
Even though we didn't know it 20-months ago the planning of this weekend was put in motion then. A Saturday afternoon at Iowa's first vegan farm sanctuary followed the next day with our first trail running event. A 10.5-mile run for Anna. A 50-mile run for Michael. But why do all of this? That's hard to answer at times, but Anna worded it perfectly, "both days I had overwhelming feelings of... we are exactly where we are supposed to be."
We wanted to share this experience with everyone as we experienced it. So, hours after our trip to the Iowa Farm Sanctuary and before the trail runs we recorded part one Saturday night in Omaha. Following the runs and our drive back to Des Moines we wrapped up our race recap and overall thoughts in the second half of this conversation.
Enjoy!

It wasn’t one thing, but rather an accumulation of several facts, thoughts and emotions that formed the ‘why’ behind us going vegan. In this episode, We (Michael and Anna) share the ones that hit us the hardest and left us wishing we had made the switch sooner.
