  • Season 4, Ep. 20: FAD #20 — The Responsibility of Being a Responsible Adult
Being an adult is the pits — and being a responsible one takes a lot out of you. Unfortunately, there isn't any training to teach you and Afiya is really digging her heels in the sand about it.

In this episode of "Adult-ish Presents: Fifi After Dark," our host Afiya has a solo conversation on the pitfalls of not being taught how to be a responsible adult, and how it's a MAJOR responsibility to be responsible.

In recounting how she's been living it all by herself, the podcast host talks about the need for everyone to be as self-sufficient as they can be and how people can be suckered into losing money and their lives by not being knowledgeable of how to take care of themselves and their surroundings.

From her desire to bring back Home Economics so we can learn how to cook, to how she wishes she knew more about cars to not be railroaded by shoddy mechanics, she chats on the importance of being a well-rounded adult — and how we should be passing this on to the next generation.

It's hard being an adult, and being a responsible one takes a lot of work that, unfortunately, we must do on our own.

  • Season 4, Ep. 19: FAD #19 — Love in the Time of Loneliness
If it's one thing that quarantining during the Corona Pandemic has done, it's made those who are lonely just a little more aware of their loneliness.

In this episode of "Adult-ish Presents: Fifi After Dark," our host Afiya goes it alone to talk about the side of effects of being not only alone, but SINGLE during a time when touching a person can be a matter of life or death.

This solo conversation touches on everything: the anxiety a single person has about making a connection during a time where it's not so simple to reach out and connect; the pain of working from home (or not) and having to go the stresses of the world alone; and self-awareness that being by one's self during a time where companionship really is a luxury that not many have.

The solitary lady gives an account like not other about living alone in the time of 'Rona and asks folk to take a listen as this thing is hitting them — and hard.

  • Season 4, Ep. 17: Handling These Cartoon Shake-Ups Like an Adult
Did the demand for justice go too far when it crossed the line of animated cartoons?

Over the past few weeks, several actors and noted voice actors stepped down from their respective TV shows in an effort to allow for people of color to voice the 'minority' characters they'd been playing. Question is, was it really necessary?

In this episode of "Adult-ish," host Afiya is joined by recurring co-host Vincent Bernard to discuss the pros and cons of this cartoon world shakeup. The two cartoon fans point out the slippery slope people of color may fall prey to when agreeing to keep characters of color to being played by people who look like then.

Afiya dishes on the implications of voice acting being defined by a person's ethnicity over ability, and speaks to the impacts of making voice acting roles race-based. Meanwhile, Vincent dishes on his favorite voice actors in the biz and speaks to the number of coins that can leave many POC voice actors' pockets.

Take a listen as these two cartoon fans dish their feels on the shakeup no one asked for.

  • Season 4, Ep. 16: White Guilt, White Accountability & Gen Z Being Gs w. Gary
It's been a rough two weeks, but we're BACK and bringing re-enforcements!

While the media coverage of worldwide protests has taken dip, we haven't stopped noticing and the widespread demand for justice for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color). In this long-awaited episode of "Adult-ish," host Afiya and co-host Vincent Bernard are joined by the ever-shady, but always accurate, Gary.

The Detroit native joins the duo for a chat on the recent spread of acceptance and accountability shared by major corporations the world over and discuss whether it comes from a place of White Guilt or actual accountability.

Next, the trio steers the chat into a new direction: how the voice of Gen Z is the real G behind a lot of the protests. Mobilizing social media to point others due north in morality, the crew weighs the pros and cons to the generation being staunch and steadfast in their quest for justice and how it all boils down to being accountable to make sure a movement is not just a moment.

  • Season 4, Ep. 15: Celebrating Father's Day Like an Adult Dad w. Super Osei
Father's Day is just around the corner (Sunday, June 21), and it seems like dads get the short end of the stick — or do they?

In this episode of "Adult-ish," host Afiya A. is joined by her social media pen pal, musician, and trainer Kwaku aka Super Osei to discuss the highs and lows of being a dad and all the shortcomings of the lack-luster Father's Day celebration.

Do fathers get a bad rap? Are they valued more for doing the bare minimum OR are they not valued enough in a society that doesn't expect much out of them?

Tune in to hear Osei's take as well as his breakdown on the things that only a Father can teach their children in this ever-evolving world.

  • Season 4, Ep. 13: FAD# 18 — Getting in My Black Lives Protesting Bag
Disclaimer: this episode of "Fifi After Dark," speaks heavily to the ongoing #BlackLivesMatter protests going on globally. If you are tired of protesting talk, we HIGHLY advise you to give yourself a break and skip this episode.

In this co-opted return of 'Fifi After Dark," host Afiya gives a sober and somber monologue regarding the on-going protests rocking the nation over police brutality and #BlackLives Matter.

Why she does her best to NOT judge how anyone should protest, she does give the options available as well as her honest opinion on what protesting may look like for her; a thought that sorely needs to be considered by everything looking to make a change. She also tackles the idea of racism (which some may find controversial), how Black people in America — and worldwide for that matter — should combat the disease, and does her best to purge herself of lingering feelings about how to increase the quality of Black lives.

This conversation is not for the faint of hearts, nor is it meant to incite division. It's all about starting a conversation.

  • Season 4, Ep. 12: Protesting Like an Adult — Black People Are Tired & Beware of White Ninjas
What does it mean to be a "good" protestor?

It's 2020 and the world is continuing to go to hell in a handbasket: first with Corona, and now with another senseless death of an unarmed Black man at the hands of white police officers, caught on tape. The now-viral death has sparked civil unrest and once more, Black people are hitting the streets to march in protest, with some unsavory side effects.

In this episode of "Adult-ish," host Afiya is joined by co-host Vincent Bernard to question how does one protest? What does it mean to be a good protestor? Is it being a marcher or a person who donates funds? Or, just maybe there's another way...

Listen on as Afiya gives her not-so-conflicting take on what it can mean to protest on her terms, while Vincent makes it very clear all those marching out there aren't really marching for the clause. And the two both wrangle with the question: will protests ever really ignite change if all we're doing is using our bodies instead of our minds?
