Adventures With Jesus, Today

So often when things go wrong the first one we tend to blame is God.

"God, how could You let this happen?""God, why didn't You do something about that?""God, do You even care?"

The we take matters into our own hands and try to be our own savior...

 

At the moment we are experiencing record-breaking winter storms in Texas and many people are without power in below freezing temperatures.

When you're the one who is facing bone-chilling cold, no water and no electricity, there is such a temptation to be angry at God because of the circumstances you find yourself in.

As always, Jesus has an invitation for us, and a way to help us navigate these times when we just don't understand why things look bad. 

There is a hopeful way to see what is really going on and to navigate it from the powerful place of knowing how loved we are by our Heavenly Father.

I woke up from a dream with the verse ‘We love, because He first loved us’ really strong in my thoughts.

As I’ve sat unpacking this verse with the Lord this morning and asking Him why He’s highlighting it, I realize that I’m being given an opportunity for healing.

Times when an issue that has caused pain in your life just seems to be ‘in your face’ all the time? 

In His kindness towards us, God bring things to our attention when He knows that it’s time to see us healed from them. And the amazing thing is that when He does that, He gives us what’s needed to help us.

There is something so beautiful that happens when a thought pops into your head and introduces you to something that you've never thought of before. 

I was just talking through life with the Lord this morning and suddenly I had a thought that didn't have anything to do with our conversation. But, it was full of life and hope, so I knew it was from Him.

He whispered, “Today is so full of possibilities”

I sat bolt upright with me eyes wide with wonder.

“Wow Lord, I agree. Please tell me more”

I remembered that Heb 4:16 had been looping in my head for the past few days, so I went and looked it up.

Oh My Word! If you read from verse 14-16 you can see all the possibility we’re being offered (it’s pretty cool in the Message version)

Then He brought a story to mind of a friend of mine who said, “yes” to this invitation to adventure, and the wisdom God gave him that NO ONE had ever thought of before!

The past few days I have woken up hearing Philippians 47 going over and over in my mind.

As I sat with the Lord this morning and asked Him what He was trying to say He unpacked a framework for me to bring all the things that are worrying me at the moment, to Him.

He is inviting us to come and have a conversation and talk through all the things that are on our minds and then He has a beautiful gift to give us an exchange.

Some days you just wake up on the wrong side of the bed.

 

This morning I woke up in a bad mood because of dreams I had last night and pain in my body.

 

My alarm clock went off and even though I didn’t want to get up, I had already been tossing and turning for an hour so I just did it.

 

I came to my place in the lounge where I have my quiet time with Jesus and something shiny on the carpet caught my eye. On closer inspection, I saw that it was a little heart shape, printed on foil.

 

I have no idea how it got here, but that is just to how good my Heavenly Father is. He knew that I needed to be reminded of His love this morning and that’s exactly what this little heart did.

 

In Romans 8:28 in the Amplified Bible it says, "And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.

God is so intimately involved in our every day life and His major intention is to help us unpack all the astounding gifts of Heaven that Jesus paid for us to have.

In this episode I share a story of how Jesus is always inviting us into a place of discovery of HIs goodness, HIs provision and His loving attention.

Many of you know that I’ve been married to an IT genius for a long time!

 

His number 1 rule? Do not take liquid near your computer.

 

I don’t even remember how many times people have come to him and said, “Frans, I spilled coffee/soda/water on my laptop. Can you fix it?”

 

So what do you think the look on his face was as I came and told him that I’d just spilled water onto my laptop keyboard and it made a funny ‘pfff’ sound as I turned it off?

 

Um yes, I got the same look as he gives to everyone else…

 

We switched it off and he told me to let it dry for 24 hours. Honestly, I felt like my arm had been cut off, but I wasn’t going to risk any more damage than I’d already done.

 

Then the thoughts started.

 

What if…you lose all the information?

When did you do your last backup?

What will you do if the laptop is dead?

 

Just then Jesus ‘nudged’ me and gave me an invitation…

I find that I get a better ‘big picture’ view of something when I listen to it, so I opened up the Message Bible on my YouVersion app. 

I was getting ‘aha’ moments all the way through and this is what I learned…

Stick to the foundations - rely on Jesus

When you find yourself ‘striving’ then - rely on Jesus

Find hope for the future - rely on Jesus

You guessed it - RELY ON JESUS was the main takeaway…
