Soft costs describe the costs that are not strictly construction costs - like your architect, engineers, permit fees, etc.  When you are making a preliminary budget, it's easy to overlook these fees and expenses.  We'll do a quick run-down of what you might expect.

At the beginning of a construction project, there is often a chicken-egg situation:  you need to know how much the project will cost before you can decide to do the project, but no one will give you an exact price until you have drawings of what you hope to build.  In this episode, we'll explore how to get rough pricing so that you can decide whether it makes sense to move forward, or whether your scope of work needs to change.

Purchasing land or a buildable lot can be much trickier than it seems.  Here we'll cover topics you should research to make sure that you fully understand the rules surrounding what you are allowed to build. We'll discuss what professionals you may need to hire in order to make sure you've thoroughly done your due diligence.  Building a house is the fun part, but, first, do your homework!

You may already own the home you plan to renovate, but, if you don't, here are some pointers and pitfalls!  Doing a renovation requires a substantial investment of time, energy, and money.  It's important to make sure that the house you select warrants the effort!
