  • Nigeria Records 180 New COVID-19 Cases
    The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has confirmed 180 new cases of coronavirus in the country. This brings the total number of COVID-19 infections recorded in the country so far to 63,508.
    The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control in a tweet showed the 180 new cases are reported from 14 states.
    A total of 59,748 persons have recovered from the virus while the death toll now stands at 1155.

  • Indonesia Falls Into First Recession For Two Decades
    Indonesia’s virus-hit economy contracted in the third quarter, plunging it into its first recession since the archipelago was mired in the Asian financial crisis more than 20 years ago.
    Activity in Southeast Asia’s biggest economy slumped 3.49 percent on-year in July-September, the statistics agency said Thursday, with tourism, construction and trade among the hardest-hit sectors.
    The data marked the second consecutive quarter of contraction after a 5.3 percent decline in April-June.

    Ethiopia's Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed, has declared the military’s operation in the northern state of Tigray a success.
    Mr. Abiy in a televised address vowed to continue with the military offensive despite international calls for restraint.
    The national authorities accuse the Tigray People’s Liberation Front which has held power in the state for close to three decades of launching multiple attacks on the military.

    The UN has temporarily suspended humanitarian services in eastern South Sudan, in Pibor area, following the killing of two local aid workers.
    The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said Two members have been killed while on official business.
    The Humanitarian Coordinator in South Sudan, Alain Noudéhou, has condemned the violence.

  • Nigerian Government And Transcorp To Sign N105bn Agreement on Afam Power Plant
    The federal government will sign an agreement with Transcorp Consortium, the preferred bidder of Afam Power Plant, with a bid sum of N105 billion.
    The Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, Mr. Alex Okoh, told journalists on Wednesday in Abuja that the agreement-signing ceremony showed the fact that rather than being hamstrung by the negative impact of COVID-19, the privatisation agency scaled up its activities during the pandemic by concluding the sale process.
