Yet another black man, Daunte Wright, was shot and killed by the police in Minnesota, in the midst of the ongoing trial seeking justice for George Floyd. A Virginia Army officer was aggressively stopped by the police after leading the officers to a well-lit gas station. The WNBA unveils new jerseys in celebration of its 25th anniversary. Who’s better Jamie Foxx or Will Smith (I think y’all know our answer by this point). Will Smith and Apple and set to begin filming a movie on emancipation - originally set to be filmed in Atlanta. They’re taking their talents elsewhere, thanks to Georgia’s new voting law. Bridgerton is renewed for seasons 3 and 4, before season 2 is even released. And lastly, the age-old question…who pumps the gas?!

Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi follows the stories of the descendants of two half-sisters, Esi and Effia, who know nothing of each other despite residing in the same castle at one point. However, Effie resided in the castle’s residence as the wife of a British solder, while Esi was held in the slave dungeons below and later sold into slavery. Homegoing takes us on a journey through the generations that follow the sisters, chronicling the impact of slavery, racism, and colonialism on each member.

HBCUs will rule the court in 2022 at the first ever HBCU All-Star basketball game. Adia Barnes and Dawn Staley make history as the first Black head coaches in the Women's Final Four during March Madness. MLB moves its All-Star game from Atlanta to Denver over Georgia's voting bill. Forbes released its annual list of the richest people in the world, containing 7 Black people. Kanye West, one of those 7 Black people, inks deal with Netflix to release a documentary that is 20 years in the making. Utah passes a bill making the biological father responsible for half the costs associated with pregnancy. Arkansas Governor Hutchinson vetos a bill that would have prevented gender-affirming surgeries for children under the age of 18.
