  • Episode #59 - The New Mutants

They say there are two bears inside every podcast. One feeding on fear and anger and hate. The other feeding on hope and joy and love. These two bears rage a battle in every episode of After the Credits. They fight for the soul of YumChunks. And in this episode, the fight gets long and dirty as Ryan, Matt, and Sean come back to the Chunkfire after another extended hiatus. With months of catching up to do, they ponder about the possible marketing ties between the Snyder cut and weird monoliths appearing around the globe, reminisce about the glory and cringy days of Korracast, take a deep dive into the Home Alone films, express some short takes on The Mandolorian season 2, and of course do some casual theorizing about the future of mutants and Spider-Man in the MCU. Speaking of which, apparently a new X-Men movie came out this year. Might as well talk about it. I guess. Is the X-Men cinematic universe sent off with a bang or a wimper in the long shelved teen thriller, **The New Mutants**? Tune in to listen as these primal beasts rage a war for our souls. Who will win? Whichever one we feed. (Jokes on them, we have no souls.) * Chunkfire Stories - 05:21 * **The New Mutants** Summary - 47:10 * **The New Mutants** Discussion - 50:20

  • Episode #58 - Tenet

We are the protagonists of our own story, and the heros at YumChunks have another doozy of an episode of After the Credits for you. Chris, Ryan, and Sean attempt to solve the mind-melting puzzle of the latest Christopher Nolan would-be blockbuster, **Tenet**. Chris bounces into the eases of parenthood after his triumphant return to the show, then the guys shift direction and discuss the latest PS5 announcements, before changing trajectory again to get in some classic Star Trek talk and Dark updates. It's a long one, but a movie this complex requires the pinnacle of rambling unhelpful analysis. You're welcome. And remember, just because things are set, it's no excuse to not listen. Be the protagonist. Was it a cat I saw? * Chunkfire Stories - 02:50 * **Tenet** NON-SPOILER Discussion - 35:35 * **Tenet** Summary - 43:15 * **Tenet** Discussion - 47:10 Opera rotas tenet sator arepO.

  • Episode #55 - Final Fantasy VII Remake

Yumchunks returns to the steel city of Midgar, the only catch is Midgar has gotten an extreme makeover. In fact, just about everything has gotten a fresh new coat of paint. We will be reviewing/discussing one of the most anticipated games of all-time, **Final Fantasy VII Remake**. Come join us as we seek the comfort of Midgar's steel sky, and we journey to take down the evil Shinra corportation to save the planet. What does it mean to be a Remake? Can the Midgar section of the game standup as its own full game? How much Kingdom Hearts did Nomura jam into this thing? Did Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie deserve their own side plot? How many times can Cloud wrangle up the same cats? We answer all these questions and more within this super-sized episode. * **FFVIIR** Impressions - 06:31 * **FFVIIR** Gameplay/Design - 10:12 * **FFVIIR** Story - 52:24 # Spoiler free reviews: **Aaron:** Final Fantasy VII Remake lives up to the hype. With its flashy, yet tactical combat system, amazing character moments, and music you’ll be humming for months to come. While some story elements left me groaning or wanting, the game overall succeeds at taking us back to Midgar. **Chris:** Final Fantasy VII Remake delivers on almost all nostolgic fronts. With an addictive battle system and charasmatically recreated moments (and locales) from the original, FFVIIR is an experience that all but the most cynical fans of the original will enjoy. **Sean:** Final Fantasy VII Remake manages to succeed in recreating the feel and emotion of the original without staying so beholden to the classic as to render itself meaningless. Frustrating pacing, and a nagging feeling of incompleteness linger throughout the experience, but an engaging battle system that is far more fun than it would seem on paper, a beautifully executed soundtrack, and characterizations that enchant consistently more than make up for the negatives. More importantly, FFVIIR knows what it is, and wants to explore that, even if some fans may not, and while it often stumbles in that execution, it largely succeeds in premise, if only in pure bold ambition.
