Last night, a meteor lit up South East Queensland skies, which coincided with the Lyrid Shower. 

A Lyrid Shower is a celestial event that occurs every April. 

Astrophysicist and Cosmologist, Brad Tucker, told Dean Miller on 4BC Afternoons, "Since this one [meteor] lasted for quite a few seconds, [it] was very bright and very noticeable."

"It was in kind of that, between a tennis ball and a basketball in terms of kind of scale that you're talking about in terms of size."

"The meteor that people saw last night was actually unrelated to the meteor shower. So it's a bit weird because the Lyrids don't start until about midnight. So this just happened to be a random lucky occurrence," Mr Tucker continued.

The Vatican has confirmed that the head of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis, has tragically died aged 88.

Jesuit Priest, author and educator, Reverend Doctor Richard Leonard, told Dean Miller on 4BC Afternoons, "He was a man who went where he thought Christ wanted us to go at this time in the church."

"And he did it extremely well."

A man has been arrested following a shooting incident in Palmview this afternoon.

Emergency services were initially called to the southbound lanes of the Bruce Highway around 12.10pm, following reports of a traffic crash.

Three crime scenes have been declared, with one at Palmview and two in Landsborough.

A woman and man, who were in another vehicle at the time of the earlier traffic crash, were injured as a result of the crash.

The woman has since died and the man was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Investigations are continuing.
