Nl: Het was midden in de winter.
En: It was in the middle of winter.

Nl: Lucht zo koud, je kon het bijna vastpakken.
En: The air was so cold, you could almost touch it.

Nl: Lotte en Pieter waren in Amsterdam.
En: Lotte and Pieter were in Amsterdam.

Nl: Ze waren uit hun warme huis gekomen om te fietsen.
En: They had left their warm house to go cycling.

Nl: Maar, oei!
En: But oh dear!

Nl: De wind blies zo hard.
En: The wind was blowing so hard.

Nl: Ze konden bijna niet vooruit komen.
En: They could hardly move forward.

Nl: Lotte had een rode muts op.
En: Lotte was wearing a red hat.

Nl: Ze was klein maar dapper.
En: She was small but brave.

Nl: Pieter was groter.
En: Pieter was taller.

Nl: Zijn sjaal wapperde in de wind.
En: His scarf fluttered in the wind.

Nl: Ze hadden een taak.
En: They had a mission.

Nl: Ze moesten naar de bakker.
En: They had to go to the bakery.

Nl: Ze wilden warm brood halen.
En: They wanted to get warm bread.

Nl: Ze zetten hun voeten op de trappers.
En: They put their feet on the pedals.

Nl: Ze begonnen te fietsen.
En: They started cycling.

Nl: De wind blies tegen.
En: The wind was against them.

Nl: Ze trapten harder.
En: They pedaled harder.

Nl: Ze gingen vooruit.
En: They moved forward.

Nl: Heel langzaam.
En: Very slowly.

Nl: De straten van Amsterdam waren leeg.
En: The streets of Amsterdam were empty.

Nl: De grachten lagen stil.
En: The canals were quiet.

Nl: Lotte en Pieter fietsten langs de hoge, oude huizen.
En: Lotte and Pieter cycled past the tall, old houses.

Nl: Ze zagen de winkels met lichtjes erin.
En: They saw the shops with lights in them.

Nl: Plotseling blies de wind harder.
En: Suddenly, the wind blew harder.

Nl: Ze stopten.
En: They stopped.

Nl: Ze gingen achteruit!
En: They were going backwards!

Nl: Ze trapten en trapten maar ze konden niet vooruit komen.
En: They pedaled and pedaled but they couldn't move forward.

Nl: Ze keken naar elkaar.
En: They looked at each other.

Nl: Wat moesten ze doen?
En: What should they do?

Nl: Lotte keek naar Pieter.
En: Lotte looked at Pieter.

Nl: Pieter keek naar Lotte.
En: Pieter looked at Lotte.

Nl: Ze dachten na.
En: They thought.

Nl: Toen had Lotte een idee.
En: Then Lotte had an idea.

Nl: 'We kunnen lopen!
En: "We can walk!"

Nl: ', zei ze.
En: she said.

Nl: Ze stapten van de fiets.
En: They got off the bikes.

Nl: Ze liepen tegen de wind in.
En: They walked against the wind.

Nl: Ze duwden de fietsen met zich mee.
En: They pushed the bikes with them.

Nl: Ze gingen beter vooruit.
En: They moved forward better.

Nl: Ze gingen sneller.
En: They went faster.

Nl: Ze lachten.
En: They laughed.

Nl: Ze waren blij.
En: They were happy.

Nl: Ze kwamen bij de bakker.
En: They arrived at the bakery.

Nl: Ze kochten warm brood.
En: They bought warm bread.

Nl: Ze waren zo blij!
En: They were so happy!

Nl: Ze hadden het gedaan!
En: They had done it!

Nl: Terwijl ze terug liepen, stopte de wind.
En: As they walked back, the wind stopped.

En: They could cycle again.

En: Cycling was easy now.

En: They went very fast.

Nl: Thuis aten ze hun warme brood.
En: At home, they ate their warm bread.

Nl: De kachel was aan.
En: The heater was on.

Nl: Ze waren trots op zichzelf.
En: They were proud of themselves.

Nl: Ze hadden het gedaan.
En: They had done it.

Nl: Ze waren niet gestopt.
En: They didn't give up.

Nl: Ze hadden hun taak volbracht.
En: They had completed their mission.

Nl: Ze waren echte helden.
En: They were true heroes.

Nl: En ze wisten dat, wat er ook gebeurde, ze samen altijd zouden slagen.
En: And they knew that, whatever happened, they would always succeed together.
