Brother Hayat Aminzada is basically from Afghanistan. He grew up as an Agakhani-Ismaili.
Not many people know this, but Afghanistan has a small population of Aga Khan's followers. Brother Hayat Aminzada's family was sponsored by Aga Khan to immigrate to Canada. So he did his schooling in Canada.
He dedicated his life to volunteering at Jamatkhana. He would spent more time volunteering for Aga Khan's organizations than spending time with his own family. He thought it was the best thing he could do.
Despite being an Agakhani-Ismaili, he always wondered why they pray to Aga Khan and ask him directly to forgive their sins. He didn't feel this was right.
One day he was volunteering at a special event called Deedar. At this event, Agakhani-Ismailis get a glimpse of Aga Khan in person and consider it as "Hajj." Brother Hayat Aminzada was waiting for Karim Aga Khan to arrive and when he saw him, he didn't see anything special about it. He saw no "Noor" on his face, as Agakhanis proclaim to see Allah's Noor in him. Brother Hayat Aminzada saw none of it. In fact, Aga Khan appeared to be just a regular white, old guy.
When Aga Khan spoke, there was nothing special about it. Brother Hayat Aminzada saw Agakhani-Ismailis falling in prostration and kissing the ground on which Aga Khan walked. Brother Hayat Aminzada found all of it to be an over-dramatic display of faux spirituality.
By this time, brother Hayat owned a shop where he also sold lottery tickets. He didn't know gambling was Haram. In reality, no Agakhani-Ismaili knows anything about Halal-Haram, because this is never taught to them at Jamatkhanas.
Aga Khan himself engages in gambling and other Haram businesses, so he has no moral ground to preach his followers. Therefore, they have completely deleted the concept of Halal-Haram from their religion.
There were some Muslims who would visit brother Hayat's shop and would tell him to stop selling lottery tickets, as gambling is Haram. They would also invite him to visit the Masjid and pray with them. Brother Hayat visited the Masjid and would often attend the Seerat-un-Nabi (biography of Rasul Allah ﷺ) classes at the Masjid. He began to understand Islam and how it clashes with Agakhanism. He understood the concept of Halal-Haram.
One day he called his father and told him about all his feelings. His father and mother were both encouraging, but social pressure came from the community when they realized that brother Amin had left Agakhanism. He faced excommunication from them, but none of those blackmailing tactics worked on him.
Today, by the Mercy of Allah, brother Hayat Aminzada has his own Youtube channel to give Dawah to Agakhani-Ismailis and invite them to Islam. Indeed, guidance is only from Allah and Allah guides whom He wills!
