The removal of supply caps was one of the key areas the Council on the Ageing chief executive Ian Yates discussed at a summit on consumer directed care (CDC) in Sydney recently.

Advocates from leading healthcare and aged-care organisations came together for a panel-led discussion of Australia’s home-care crisis at Hartmann Australia’s Consumer Directed Care Summit.

Aged Care Insite spoke to Yates at the conference about his views on the current supply cap and the Home Care Today project, which aims to create support for providers and consumers surrounding CDC.

In the latest aged-care approval rounds, few consumer directed care (CDC) licences went to the private sector. There is a bias, SummitCare chief executive Cynthia Payne said at a CDC summit in Sydney recently.

“As a private provider trying to get into that market, the barriers to entry are really tough and we’re trying to work out why and we don’t necessarily get concrete feedback,” she told Aged Care Insite.
