  • 4 A’s to Peak Performance
Alright we're back at it with another fantastic interview for you which comes by way of a man named Dirk Stroda as he discusses the 4 A's to Peak Performance . A very interesting man that has been working with high performance athletes for quite some time.

Dirk begins talking about he actually started working with individuals through their physical performance and later realized 'the mind follows the body'. He wanted to reach his clients on a different level, he wanted to help them push past the physical limitations which he believes (and now teaches) begins with the mind.

From Olympians to Business owners, Dirk's approach to wellness is certainly what I'd call holistic as he focuses on the heart as he explains what he calls the 4 A's which include Attitude, Awareness, Authenticity and Allowing.
    Who is Dirk?
Dirk Stroda is the High Performance Mental Coach for Equine Canada. He coaches the Canadian Dressage, the Para Dressage and the Eventing Team on the Road2Rio, the 2016 Rio Olympic Summer Games.

He is also the ‘go-to’ Mental Coach for many Olympians, World Champions and NHL Pro’s and Public Figures.

He is one of the most sought after speaker of his kind and has traveled the world speaking in front of thousands at various conferences and symposiums.

Stroda is a frequent writer for the Huffington Post and other international magazines.

His athletes and Teams participated successfully at 11 different Olympic Summer and Winter Games, multiple World Championships, PanAm Games and countless National Championships.

Stroda lives with his family in Kelowna, BC. www.dirkstroda.com

  • Reduce stress, eat out guilt free
Seriously, reduce stress, eat out guilt free is something that really exists. Here's the issue, we have so much stress, so much anxiety around eating out, what do we do? We'll I'll tell you what we do, in this post and show I go over a handful of great tips to help you reduce stress so you actually can eat out guilt free.

I know it's difficult, I know we're not sure where to go, how to prepare, what to order, but that's exactly what we're going to cover. I'm going to help you feel more comfortable when you want to enjoy a night out and even when you didn't exactly prepare and need something to eat without any prep.

#1. Create a weekly meal plan
I can't tell you how much success I've seen with those that create a weekly meal plan. It seems like it'll take more time to do this but you'll actually find it, it'll save you time throughout the week. This will also carry over to some of the other tips.
#2. In your meal plan schedule a night to go out
I know it sounds like over planning and I also know it's fun to do things spur of the moment but this will reduce so much stress in your life. If you actually plan ahead and schedule this night there are so many advantages to find a healthier place to go out. We'll get into more in the tips below but make sure you plan a night to go out.
#3. Stick especially close to your meal plan
If you're know you're going out, it's that much more important to stick close to your meal plan. You'll reduce a large amount of stress, if you stick close to your meal plan and almost treat your night out as a reward for doing such a good job all week long. (However, this doesn't mean it's time to over indulge and eat whatever you like, be conscious of the food you're putting your body and pay attention to how it makes you feel).
#4. Consider a digestive enzyme and or a probiotic supplement
Personally I think we should have a probiotic in some for everyday. If you know you're going out this is especially important so you can prepare your gut and body for foods it's not used to. Try to have some type of probiotic in the morning, pop a few digestive enzymes before dinner and you can even order a side of fermented food with dinner (my favourite side dish is Kimchi, not only for taste but to help my gut digest foods I'm not used to consuming). *I also highly recommend Puradyme's digestive enzyme.
    #4. Find a better option
If you're stopping somewhere last mind try to find a better option. If its' a main stream place we usually know if they have any type of better option at all. These days we can even find healthier options in fast food restaurants, so do you best to make a wise decision for your body and health.
    #5. Let go of guilt
Guilt, by far, does more damage to your mind and body than the actual meal. So if the wheels fall off, do your best to let it go. You're not doing anyone any good by replaying your not so good decision over and over again in your mind. Let it go, move on and do better the next day.

I hope these tips helped give you a better idea of how you can reduce stress, eat out guilt free because you really can. Enjoy life, make better decisions, enjoy the little things and improve your decisions on day at a time.

  • Avoiding Holiday Health Pitfalls
The biggest issue with avoiding holiday health pitfalls is realizing the holidays are here and not falling into the 'vacation mode' mind set. This is easier said than done. We don't realize how much the holidays are upon us. We don't realize that we're a number of weeks away from (let's use Christmas as an example) and parties, appetizers, desserts and more have already started.

Think about how long of a stretch that is to be in vacation mode if you're looking at avoiding holiday health pitfalls. It's essential we look to prevent, notice and address that even though it's okay to enjoy time with family, parties and more, that weeks away from an actual event is a very long time to 'over indulge here and there'.

We've worked so hard to develop habits, set goals, turn those habits into rituals and now, slowly and more frequently as we get closer to the actual day (doesn't matter if it's a birthday, Thanksgiving or Christmas), the more temptation, and the more we let our habits slip.

Now with weeks away, of living in 'vacation mode' we have New Years Resolutions where everyone wants a fresh start. Motivation is high and so is ambition but, over the last few weeks we slowly start to make new and even reinforce habits that don't support progressing with New Years Resolutions no matter how high motivation is.

This is why it's absolutely essential we push forward right now when avoiding holiday health pitfalls. We need to reinforce habits right now, hang on to our weekly workout habits, nutrition prep and more so when the time comes we've actually gained momentum when motivation increases.

And what about stress? We all know stress is at it's all time high over the holidays, unfortunately this is the time we stop doing what helps us reduce stress the most. Exercise being the #1 stress reliever, somehow we find less and less time to workout, so our stress increases.

Instead of putting less toxic and stress reducing foods in our body at this time, we put more toxins which again increases our stress. What I'm saying here is, not to make big changes at the moment but hang on to all the hard work you've put in up to this point and do everything you can in avoiding holiday health pitfalls.
