  • EM&B #194: Energetic EyeHealing
    This interview on Energetic EyeHealing with Dr. Roberto Kaplan was an absolute pleasure. I’ve been looking for an eye expert for quite some time and feel so fortunate I came across Dr. Kaplan.
    Here’s the issue, we as a society accept our eye health to decline as we age, which isn’t much different than our expectations regarding our overall health.  I wanted to find someone that had the same beliefs as I did and could explain how we can actually improve our eye health naturally. I’m quite certainly, I wouldn’t be able to find anyone better for the job.
    In this interview Dr. Kaplan explains our mind and body is connected to our eyes. He talks about how our eyes are like a computer print out with a message to share and what’s more, how eye issues or dis-ease is a signal communicating for help.

    Show Notes:

    * Exercises vs Practices
    * how our eyes weren’t meant to stare at a computer phone or tablet all day
    * how were weren’t actually taught how to improve our eye sight
    * why the color green is medicinal to our eyes
    * what is your relationship to your eyes?
    * how our mind set is conditioned by media
    * emotional survival strategies
    * how eye coaching can help
    * the eyes are a computer print out
    * the eye is 10% of the process of seeing
    * 90% happens behind the eyes
    * how much light is shining through your eyes
    * place an eye chart behind your computer and test your eye strength throughout the day

    6 Steps to Naturally Improve Your Health

    * Every 20 mins remove your eyes from your computer screen – look to the 4 corners of your computer, take deep breaths for at least 1 min
    * Look or ‘Zoom’ your eyes out the window (something green is recommended) or focus on a green plant in your office.
    * Close your eyes, rest them and take deep breaths
    * Gently place your fingers over your eye lids
    * Stretch in your chair
    * leave the room for a bathroom break

    Dr. Kaplan could have the most intriguing mind I had the pleasure of looking into. What really took me away was how he believes that our eyes give us messages, how if there is something wrong with our eye sight there is something else wrong with our health and how our eyes are actually trying to tell us something.  My favorite verse from his book:
    “The Presence of Disease is a signal of a deeper event of the body and mind that is communicating for help.”
    Thanks so much for taking the time to be on air with us Dr. Kaplan, it was absolutely my pleasure. For more information on Dr. Kaplan and how he can help naturally improve your eye sight please visit Beyond20/20vision.com

  • Hiding Behind Windows
    Course you’re not exactly able to hide behind windows but I feel that many of us try to hide in the open. We try to hide who we really are when all the while most can see right through us. And even if they can’t, think about how difficult it is, think about how much energy it takes to front a smile all the time. How much energy you spend masking who you really are.
    I believe each one of us have a gift to share with the world and it starts with out own authentic selves. I feel that many of us have hidden talents that we don’t share with the world because we’re afraid of what others might think. It’s certainly not easy letting yourself be vulnerable to judgment, disapproval or naysayers.
    But I’d say it’s worth it, I’d say having the courage to be yourself, to use words true to you, thoughts and even actions that are yours no matter what others think and say is special and a special gift we should share with everyone that would make this world a better place.
    Show Notes:

    * Each one of us has a gift to share with the world
    * we all have our own authentic self
    * we’re afraid of being vulnerable
    * have the strength and courage to share who you are
    * we imprison ourselves
    * each one of us IS a gift
    * be who you want to attract in this life
    * stop spending your life waiting

  • Internalizing – Stress, Injuries and Weight Gain
    Personally, I believe we can look at increased stress rates, weight gain and even injuries to how we internalize issues in our lives (Internalizing – Stress, Injuries and Weight Gain). The issue is, something stressful comes up in our life, we may have been wronged, disrespected, hurt or embarrassed. The initial action isn’t the issue, the issue is how we deal with the emotions that arise from a situations like this.
    Some people can let go and move on, others are hurt for a period of time and then also move on, but a good majority of us hold on tightly to those hurt feelings, and internalize them. We push this situations and these feelings down so deep we may have them inside us for years, even our entire lives without addressing them.
    It’s important to find an outlet for these feelings because if we don’t this is where more stress arises, this is where injuries come from externally and this is where weight gain comes from. As we continue to protect ourselves from being hurt we’re actually hurting ourselves more. These internal issues cause frustration, anxiety, anger and more all because we internalize at a very deep level.

  • Surround Yourself with Life
    So I was sitting in my house the other day and just finished drinking a green smoothie. Then I looked to my left and on the table I noticed a new green plant I just picked up at a local farmers market. Then I saw a basil plant a friend just gave me on the window sill. Finally I thought about all the green food in the fridge, how I just made a real fruit post workout drink and how we just finished with a this Vegan Detox Challenge.
    I felt like everywhere I looked I was surrounded by life. Plants, and green food and everything that represented life in some form. Then I started to think about the opposite, what didn’t represent life in my life and how I could continue to put more things in my life to make me feel more alive an vibrant.
    Show Notes:

    * Labeling yourself as a ‘vegan’, vegetarian, or even gluten free type of person
    * Living a vegan lifestyle
    * Avoiding plastic bags

  • EM&B#192: Get fit with gratitude
    Anita Parker has a long list of credentials that include a Bachelor of Science, a Bacehlor of Education and along with an AFLCA instructor who certifies trainers she has taught fitness classes, yoga and more for over 20 years. It’s an absolute pleasure to have Anita on the show and share this interview with you.
    I love the topic of get fit with gratitude because I personally believe coming from a place of gratitude we can be more successful in all areas of life, so why not fitness as well. Without boring you, Anita talks about how our bodies actually chemically change by having a mindset of appreciation.  She also goes over numerous benefits that will actually show you how you can get fit with gratitude.  More in the show notes….

    Notes Provided by Anita Parker

    * direct correlation between positive emotions and health
    * emotions are embodied experiences, science shows this (so weird that we still have a disconnect between our minds and bodies). Not just in our heads! In fact, our bodies feel emotions first and then send the message to our brains.
    * gratitude is a unique positive emotion, because it is actually something you can DO. You can have a gratitude action plan (as compared to other positive emotions), so it’s as much a part of your health as your diet, exercise, medicines, etc.
    * love this: stress shortens your telomeres (bits of DNA at the end of chromosomes). (My science degree was in genetics) Telomeres shorten naturally as we age, but stress hastens this. So terribly cool that stress kills us at the DNA level of every cell in our body.

    More Show Notes:

    * How exercise is not an option
    * There different types of exercise there was 20 years ago
    * how the fitness industry has changed
    * Science of motion
    * positive emotions offer positive health
    * how to use gratitude as a tool
    * gratitude is a unique positive emotion
    * how gratitude came improve your workouts
    * create a gratitude journal

    One of my favorite parts of what Anita said in the interview and off air is how she wanted to use catch phrases to name this topic like ‘lose weight with gratitude’, and then realized that phrase wasn’t true to her so she went with ‘get fit with gratitude’.  To me, that says a lot about Anita and what she stands for because being fully engulfed in the fitness industry for most of my life, now as a professional, quite honestly it’s difficult to find those that will put truth and simply being real at the top of their priority list and by pass catch phrases like ‘lose weight’.  Now I’m not saying everyone is like that in the fitness industry but I am saying, it’s a breath of fresh air to have Anita on the show and share her experiences as not only a great trainer and leader in the industry but a real person as well.
    Thanks so much for coming on the show Anita, I love what you’re doing and hope you continue working with you in the future!

  • Setting up your day for success
    Setting up your day for success is one of the most important things you can do. We all know what it’s like to wake up late, scramble to get to the office and when we get there we have so many things to do we don’t know where to start. Not only that but we’re usually doing things for everyone else, and not doing the things we need to get done for ourselves.
    In this show I talk about tips to start your day out right, to plan ahead of time and even know exactly what you’re doing the next day, the night before.
    Show notes:

    * what’s your perfect day look like?
    * go to bed at the same time in the evening
    * wake up at the same time in the morning

  • EM&B: 191 How we Treat Others
    Why do we treat our loved ones worse than we treat perfect strangers? It sounds funny, maybe even odd but it’s the truth. And I’m not saying we should treat strangers any worse, we should be kind to everyone equally but especially those we love most. Those that mean more to us, those that we love should be treated with love and respect but instead we take out our anger and frustration on those we love the most.  It would be a good idea to consider how we treat others no matter who they are or what they mean to us.
    Show Notes:
    -don’t be mean to strangers
    -we would be polite and respectful to a perfect stranger but when it comes to our loved ones…
    -bad day, your boss yelled at you, a customer treated you badly or maybe a service ripped you off so you’re in a bad mood.
    -who do we take it out on  when we get home?
    -who is punished for our bad day?
    -those we love the most….spouse, friends, pet – dog lover…animal lover, dog will always be loyal, it will always love you.
    The way we talk to our kids
    -woman grabber her kid by the arm, 3 inches from his face, used harsh words
    What about the way coaches talk their players
    – I could see a time and a place for yelling
    – coaches yell just to yell
    – show their power, intimidate, get their point across
    – there’s no other way?
    – loss of communication, foreign language, talking slower and louder
    -you have no other means to communicate than to yell
    – coach trying to embarrass their player, when all they’re doing is embarrassing themselves, a grown up having a temper tantrum
    – My coaches, higher up the better the coaches, the less yelling
    – K state coach, demanding respect, using words, the way you act, the respect you give

    Sitting in a meeting – treat people how you’d like to be treated
    -powerful statement
    Have you ever thought about the words you use?
    -could be in your own head about yourself,
    -could be what you say to others
    -I don’t believe there is any different between verbal, emotional and physical abuse
    -they all harm on a deep level
    – Divorce rate Stats Canada say 40% – Huffington post for the US says 50%
    Showing appreciation
    -what if we were to tell our employees how much we appreciation them, or our co workers
    -Kids Matter Card
    -Ever send a thank you card
    -Say thank you for a thank you gift
    –Karen Koeing – Emotional Eating
