  • EMB #200: Peaceful Warrior Way
I couldn't be more excited to have Dan Millman on air with me for my 200th show! Dan is my all time favorite author because of the Way of the Peaceful Warrior which changed my life and countless others. This is actually the 3rd time I've had the pleasure of interviewing Dan and each interview with his gets better each time.

Given that this is show 200, this marks my 4th year on air which is an incredible milestone for me to reach. I can't thank you enough for being here with me to share this show and moment with me. I've had listeners from the very beginning still listening and I also have new listeners and even those that have gone back and listened to each and every episode.

I couldn't be more grateful for the support show by you, the station and all the incredible interviews sent over during the past few years of Exploring Mind and Body.

I specifically asked Dan to come on for my 200th show which he graciously agreed upon. If you aren't familiar with his work, his bio reads as follows:
    Who is Dan Millman?
Dan Millman is a former world champion athlete, university coach, martial arts instructor, and college professor.

After an intensive, twenty-year spiritual quest, Dan's teaching found its form as the Peaceful Warrior's Way, expressed fully in his books and lectures. His work continues to evolve over time, to meet the needs of a changing world.

Dan's thirteen books, including Way of the Peaceful Warrior, have inspired and informed millions of readers in 29 languages worldwide. The feature film, "Peaceful Warrior," starring Nick Nolte, was adapted from Dan's first book, based upon incidents from his life.

  • Moving Forward in Life
I think we all try to find ways where we feeling like we're moving forward in life. In this show I talk about how I feel like I'm moving forward and also how I feel like there comes a turning point in all our lives in which we actually can move forward and progress in the manner not only we hoped for but worked for.

I feel like at times we think we can do everything on our own when in fact we need help. I would say every successful person accepted help in some way. There are simply too many things to do and people to please to go at it alone.

I believe deep down we all have some sort of control issues. We need that control and without we feel like we lose a part of ourselves. Entrepreneurs, teachers, coaches and parents, we're all the same. We feel that absolutely no one can do it as good as us so we continue to struggle through life instead of accepting that help and understanding the only way to continue moving forward in life is to accept and carry on.

  • Why I don’t take supplements
I’m often asked what type of supplements I take. When I respond, I get a puzzled look. The truth is I don’t take supplements. There are many reasons I list in this show but for the most part I don’t feel I need them. And truthfully I believe we could all take less (or maybe none) if we ate a more balanced diet.

I believe food heals, food cures and food prevents. Which means I feel that if we intake the proper amount of nutrients at the right time of day, food is all we need to live strong and healthy lives. Now I certainly understand this is a foreign concept. Many believe we should all take some form of supplements, certainly vitamins to be healthy. Which I suppose is why people look at me so funny when I tell them I take none.
Please understand I’m not saying you shouldn’t take supplements, what I’m saying is, I don’t. That’s my decision and we all have to stand by our own choices. Personally growing in the athletic world I literally had a tackle box full of every vitamin, powder, pill and supplement you could imagine.
Unfortunately at that time I didn’t realize many conventional supplements put more stress on our bodies than do good. There are so many things we need to be careful about when consuming supplements.

    * what a company stands for
    * how a product is produced
    * by products
    * side affects
    * ingredients the human body had no business trying to absorb

Let me say this again so I’m clear, if you feel strong and healthy when taking your vitamins you should take your vitamins. If you have a doctor or nutritionist that you trust and believe in that recommends supplements than by all means, take your supplements.
I’m not here to tell you any different, I’m not telling you my perspective. Personally I’d look at whole food first, I’d look to your diet and lifestyle before I’d put a number of different products in my body that will be difficult to recognize, utilize and absorb.
You also have to consider the damage that’s been done on your body over the years. Some of us have difficulty digesting food for example. There is nothing wrong with taking a pill that can offer some help. Some refuse to eat greens, if this is the case then absolutely you should supplement your body/diet accordingly.

  • EM&B# 199: Tantra for the West
I think we’re all looking for something in this life, maybe it’s peace, maybe it’s happiness, maybe it’s fortune and fame. Regardless here we are working towards a better life, through self improvement maybe even to find a deeper purpose.
Marc Allen put together his new book, Tantra for the West to help us understand life on a deeper level, maybe to find that contentment (however you see it), maybe happiness or maybe just a little understanding of how to enjoy your life. Marc explains how the word Tantra is about living in the now, how to appreciate each moment and how to push aside smaller forms of energy that affect our lives so much like anger, frustration, anxiety and more.
One of my favorite parts of this interview is how Marc explains how most of these negative types of emotions are based out of fear, and if we really dig deep and reach that fear, confront that fear we realize that fear is usually a stretch of our imagination that is hardly possible.

    Who is Marc Allen?
Marc Allen is the author of several books including Tantra for the West, The Magical Path, The Greatest Secret of All, Visionary Business, and others. He is an internationally renowned seminar leader, entrepreneur, author, and composer. He co-founded New World Library (with Shakti Gawain) and has guided the company, as president and publisher, from a small start-up to its current position as a major player in the independent publishing world. He leads seminars in northern California and gives teleseminars that reach people all over the world. For more information visit www.MarcAllen.com or www.NewWorldLibrary.com.

  • Behind the Scenes with Lou Corona
This is the behind the scenes version of my off air conversation with Lou Corona. He almost offers more content off air than on which is why I wanted to share it with you. Lou offer such great content from how he got started to healing people from dis-ease.
I thought it was cool how Lou talks about when got started no one would listen to him. I feel like all of us just starting out in the health industry feels the same way which is an important message to share. If every quit or gave up because no one would listen to them when they first started out you wouldn’t have people like Lou positively influencing lives at the level he is.
I did edit the show although I’d say it’s a little less than the professional format you may be used to. So again this is the conversation Lou and I had before and after we talked about Lou Corona’s 4 Principles of Holistic Health.

  • Living Healthy is Hard
Living healthy is hard isn’t it? I’m being serious here. We all know what it’s like to try, try harder, and try again and see little results.  Think about all the changes you have to make when living a healthy lifestyle. You pretty much have to turn your entire life around, some entirely change everything.
We have to change our mind set, our approach to real health instead of a fad or diet, we need to realize we’re in it for the long haul and that small steps are sustainable and that anything that comes easily will likely leave just as easily.
But just because it’s hard, (I’m sure we’re all in agreement on this one) doesn’t mean it’s okay not to try, not to put your best foot forward, not to get back up each and every time you get knocked down. The truth is we have excuses.
Health food is expensive, I don’t have time, I’ve tried everything and nothing worked. These are all reasons and stories we’ve told ourselves so we don’t have to try anymore.  Understanding that first of all this is hard, in fact it’s supposed to be hard. Few of us where taught how to live healthy, it certainly isn’t in schools and I honestly believe parents do the best that they can but even they don’t always know the healthiest choices.
Which is why we have to take responsibility for ourselves. We need to understand this is life process and no matter how many times we get knocked down, we need to pick ourselves back up, dust the dirt off and get back in the game.

  • EM&B #198: Opening to Meditation
It was an absolute pleasure having Diana Lang on show to talk about her book Opening to Meditation. We haven’t actually had this topic on the show before which I feel is kind odd except that I feel that we were actually waiting for Diana’s interview.
It’s an absolute breath of fresh air to hear Diana’s perspective and how she talks about meditation. How 5 mins a day is okay to start with, how there are many different forms of meditation and to hear the passion and enthusiasm in her voice as she explains the unending benefits that meditations has to offer.
Diana Lang is the author of Opening to Meditation and the owner and director of the Lifeworks Center for Growth in Los Angeles, where she lives. She is also active in a variety of nonprofit international efforts to teach meditation and yoga. Visit her online at www.dianalang.com

    Final Note:
I just want to thank Diana for taking the time to come on Exploring Mind and Body.  This book is small, compact and more than anything, efficient. So many of us struggle with meditation, even those that understand the benefits of it (like myself). This book is perfect to help you understand how to get started and carry on your journey to improve your health.

  • Fathers Day
Sometimes I feel that dad’s get a bad wrap simply because in the recent past it seems more like single mothers are more likely to raise a child. Then of course we forget about all the fathers do a great job of raising their children. You even see more and more single father’s in the today’s day in age.
I had some very influential men in my life growing up that helped me turn into the person I am and I have friends that are incredibly caring and loving new fathers that are going to raise the bar for the next generation of parents.
I feel like in this day in age there’s a whole lot of pressure to be a parent. I truly believe we are products of our environment so will it being the norm to get married young and have children what’s one to think even they aren’t sure or aren’t ready to be a parent.
You have peer pressure, you have society’s pressure of a common thought of ‘you’re unhappy if you don’t have someone to love’, ‘you’re missing something in your life if you don’t settle down with children, and then you have the ‘free spirits’ or ‘lost souls’ that travel the world or want to wait to settle down.
Now I’m not letting anyone off the hook here, we’re all responsible for our own choices but I believe many times not only fathers but mothers get pressured into started a family when they aren’t ready for one. Or maybe don’t want one at all.
Marc Allen said, why don’t we have a day for single people, we celebrate fathers day and mothers day but nothing for those that choose not to have children.
Personally I feel that we as individuals (for the most part) do the best we can with the circumstances we’re given. There is so much anger and frustration by now grown adults that have had parents leave them at a young age. If we could all understand that maybe all of us parents weren’t ready to have children and those that did, did the very best they could, maybe we could let go of some of that anger and frustration and forgive.
Forgiveness will take us much further in life than, resentment, hate or anger.
