  • EMB# 202: The Wheel of Healing with Ayurveda
    The Wheel of Healing with Ayurveda written by Michelle S. Fondin was an incredibly informative book on how to heal with the Ayurveda way of life. What I love about this book is, you can pick it up and turn to any page or chapter and start right from there. I was telling Michelle in the interview (maybe off air) how it was almost difficult to plan this interview because there was so many great points in the book I wanted to cover and share with you.

    My favorite part of this interview is how Michelle talks about our life purpose and how many of us don't think about it. We set goals or things we want to accomplish but we don't always consider why we're here and what our life purpose is. Michelle also gives tips on how to find this with starts out with childhood.

    Michelle has an incredible story of healing herself with Ayurveda which is why she now teaches it and heals others. One of my favorite parts of what she has to say it, she was young, active and ate clean but still had major dis-ease in her body. I feel that many people are in the same boat, and as Michelle explains in this interview you'll have to dig deep and find out what's really bothering you to heal from the inside out and get to the root of the issue. More about Michelle....

  • Increase nutrition with increased workouts
    Increase nutrition with increased workouts is an important subject because I'm not sure we think about how much increased workouts affect our over all ability to function if we aren't putting quality nutrients in our body.

    See what happens is, our body burns energy while at activity, this energy burned comes from food but not just any food. The best burned energy comes from the best food i.e quality food (quality nutrients). Our body doesn't exactly use low quality food as energy but instead stores it as body fat.

    It's difficult to burn body fat when we're continue to put low quality food in our 'engine' if you will. As we continue to burn energy we need to refuel our body with quality food (or quality energy) so we can continue to perform at an optimal level.

    It doesn't matter if you're a weekend warrior or every day athlete. You need to continue to put quality food in your body so you continue to burn the quality energy you need to be at your best.

  • EMB #201: Naturally Lower Cholesterol
    High cholesterol is a major issue with the way we live our lives in North America. In fact I'd go as far to say High Cholesterol is more of a lifestyle disorder than anything else. This Cholesterol issue being such a factor in our health I wanted to bring on an expert to help us better understand why our cholesterol seems to be high and how to naturally lower cholesterol.

    One of my favourite points Rick brings up in the interview is how Rick talks about the fear of Cholesterol and how we actually need it for our body to function at it's optimal level.

    Rick Kohut – aka ‘The Good Food Guy’  R.H.N. Holistic Nutritionist, Biofeedback Technician, Responsible Farmer, Speaker, Co-author of ‘Elevate Your Health’ and founder of Health Street Wellness Store in Olds, Alberta. I live in Didsbury, Alberta, Canada. I have an amazing wife and two trouble makin’ kids!

    I didn’t always love ‘good food’. Before my life as a natural health guru I was unhealthy, extremely obese and struggled with challenging digestion difficulties. I was addicted to ‘fake food’ and terrible eating habits, not to mention a high stress corporate job doing quite the opposite of what I love to do today!

    Things had to change…and they did!  Now I live to give what I have learned as a nutritionist – specializing in digestion and understanding modern food production to help everyone sort out today’s food choas and simplify healthier living.

    Show Notes:

    * our perspective of high cholesterol and how it's wrongly linked to cardio vascular disease
    * the business end of the medication industry and how cholesterol medication is on the top of the list
    * fear of high cholesterol
    * having a new mind set around cholesterol
    * HDL and LDL
    * function of the liver

    Guidelines to effectively balance cholesterol
    1. Exercise
    2. Improve live health

    * eat turmeric
    * digestive enzymes
    * floresense herbal tea
    * milk thistle
    * fish oil and seed oils

    3. Alkalizing foods

    * coloured veggies
    * sprouts
    * raw seeds and nuts
    * leafy greens

    4. Consumer water

    * herbal teas
    * naturally flavour water

    5. Increase bowl movements

  • Morning Nutrition
    Morning nutrition is one of the most significant factors to live a healthy lifestyle, hands down. Unfortunately so many of us don't consider food or nutrients in the morning as being a priority. So I sat down and put this post/show together to help you understand how important morning nutrition is.

    Think about how long it was sine the last time you ate, think about how our bodies burn food (nutrients/calories) for energy and then think about how little energy you have in the morning, maybe wake up grumpy or lethargic and aren't really looking forward to starting your day.

    Our health in large part (healthy or not) is based around morning nutrition. Think about how much of a difference it would make in your life if you woke up and put good nutrients in your body. Instead the majority of our civilization has nothing in the morning or hits the closes coffee shop for a pastry and coffee putting all kinds of toxins in it that we'll be consuming.

    If you flip the script just for a moment and put something quality in your body first thing in the morning, think about how beneficial this could be. First all you feel like you've accomplished something first thing in the morning, you have confidence, walk a little taller and more than anything, want to make healthier decisions all day long because you started your day out right.

    I know many people say, 'I can't eat in the morning'. Think about the other side of the coin. Do you think a healthier person would be able to not eat till 10 am or even noon? Do you think a healthy person could put low quality food in their body and function properly?

    We've all developed habits, which means these habits can be reinforced, changed or completely different if we so choose. I'd highly recommend considering your morning nutrition in the morning if you're looking to live a healthier lifestyle.  This simple action of putting nutrients in your body first think could change your life.

  • Detoxify with Dr. Nicola Bird
    On this edition of Exploring Mind and Body we're flipping the script here and it's my turn to be interviewed. Dr. Nicola Bird reached out to me and asked me if I'd like to be interview on her show. So needless it say it's an absolute please be asked to guest on someone else's show.

    The topic of this discussion is Reducing Stress through Detoxing the body. As you might know, I love to talk about this subject. I truly believe our bodies are incredibly stressed out due to the amount of toxins we're putting in, on and surrounding ourselves with.

    As you'll hear in the interview I reference Detoxify Yourself which is the book I wrote so you have a better idea of how to avoid toxins, prepare toxic free food, avoid toxic cosmetics and even to pay attention to a toxic environment which certainly plays a factor in our stress levels.

    Detoxify Yourself is a 30 day meal plan all free of gluten, diary, soy and gmo's. It has recipes, grocery shopping lists and meal plans for the entire 30 days.

    You'll also hear me tell Dr. Bird how to reach the subconscious level and really dig deep to what stresses we've internalized and pushed deep down this is causing all types of different stresses on our bodies.

    Hope you enjoy the show!

    And a special thank you to Dr. Bird for having me on, giving me a chance to share my story and reach her audience as well.
