  • EMB #206: Death Race Finisher Noel D’arcy
For most of my life I’ve been the athlete, funny how I find myself in a new position in life as more so the coach. I can’t say I’ve entirely understood coaches (I had a hard time really connecting with most I’ve had). But the experience is entirely different.

You work so hard to prepare who you’re working with. It’s not like the sessions are over after the 60 mins is up. You’re always thinking about the progress of whomever you’re working with (online or in person). I’m wondering how they’re doing during the week. If what we’ve talked about is working, if it will get them results and if what is expected is being done.

You almost feel helpless at times because you’re not able to actually do it for them. All you can do is support, encourage and find ways to help them get results. I almost find myself more nervous at times coaching than when I was performing.

Their victories almost feel like yours both big and small, and their set backs are yours the same as you find new ways to help them reach the goals you both set out to achieve.

A big shout out to Noel Darcy who’s been working with me for quite some time. More months than I can count, he came to me and said he’ll be training for the Death Race in Grande Cache which is 125 KM course. Hard to even try to understand how long that is for most of us.

Noel’s been working incredibly hard from nutrition to workouts and (especially in this case) recovery. At the point of this post there’s only 23hrs until the race begins and I couldn’t be more excited for all of Noel’s hard work to pay off. Looking forward to hearing how it goes Noel, we’ll be with you.

  • Life Lessons from a Slackline
There were so many life lessons I've learned from just learning how to slackline I had to share them with you. It's so important to learn new things in this life. We see from a different perspective while learning something new.

This slackline was something I've never tried before but have seen many times while visiting the beach area. It just so happened I was given the opportunity to purchase one so I could try myself as often as I wanted, which is exactly what I did.

I soon found out, this was the best investment I made for not only learning how to slackline but for so many other reasons that include:

    * The set up - getting started, and how important it is to take your time to prepare ahead of time instead of jumping in with two feet as I usually do
    * Set a goal, so important in many different areas in life
    * Focus, keep your eye on your goal
    * Distractions, many things are just that. If we stay focused and don't let distractions get in our way, we can be much for successful in whatever we're doing
    * Baby steps, how significant it is to put one foot in front of the other
    * Celebrate every success no matter how small
    * You have to fall to progress and get better
    * The perception of falling is much worse than the actual fall
    * It doesn't hurt as much to fall as you think it does
    * Mind set is everything, if you believe you're a failure you will be. If you believe you can succeed you will.
    * And lastly getting back up. It doesn't matter how many times you fall. It matters how many times you get back up.

This Show is brought to you by Puradyme, a company that is truly interested in improving your health! Don't forget about our 10% off available for a limited time.

  • Goals for Success
In this show I talk about the importance of setting goals. It doesn't matter if it's for health and fitness, business or for personal reasons. Setting goals makes a significant difference in how you go about what you're doing if you have a goal with it.

I'm a big fan of Danzel Washington, not just his movies but as a person. In one of his speeches I enjoy listening to as he encourages young actors and actresses, he tells them 'Dreams without goals remain dreams which fuel disappointment'. We went on to say, 'Goals are on the road to achievement', 'between goals and achievement is discipline and consistency. I love this speech and feel that we can all learn so much from it.

Think about the things you've accomplished in your life, weather you know it or not, there's usually a goal set with it. There's usually a time line, it's usually something that means a lot to you, and it usually is so difficult other don't believe you can achieve it (even a small part of yourself).

Try setting a goal if you don't on a regular basis, just try it and see for yourself the difference a goal holds over you. See how powerful setting your sights on something that means something to you is. It'll change your life.
