Genesis 24 sees the story of Abraham focus on an unnamed elderly servant who is learning to live in the steps of his master ... sounds like a lesson for all of us

Abraham was commended for his faith, but what did that faith look like and how did it work? This Sunday we looked at how Genesis 22 is an example of how faith is not passive but instead a call to action in response to who God is.

Abraham had many 'failings' through out his life but even so he was called a man of 'faith' by God. Hebrews tells us that faith was the reason Abraham was called righteous, how God saw him was not a result of his moral standing before God but the faith He placed in God even when he thought it was impossible.

After 24 years Gods promises still echoes in Abram and Sarai's ears.  For the last 13 years since Ishmael's birth they both may be resigned to the reality that this 99 & 89 year old couple have got all they are going to get.  But God is about to break the silence as he so often does. And his word is laughable. The long wait is worth it and the reward for faith is rich.

Even the slave is not forgotten, not unseen. Today we are reminded that whatever our story and however alone or abused we may find ourselves, there is one who hears our cry and sees us. His name is El Roi, the God who sees. Listen in to Hagar's story and find hope for your own.

This week we were in Genesis 15 where Abraham's fears and doubts are turned to faith as God his shield and very great reward makes a covenant that will last forever. Not unlike the covenant Jesus has made for us!

Abram is not only a great example of faith, but also of what doubt and fear looks like two. His roller coaster story is not unlike our own. But rather than a repeating track that goes around and around, it looks more like a mountain trail that even with its ups and downs is still leading us forward to our destination - the One in who we find our true identity and purpose.

This Sunday we celebrated Father's day and all the amazing dads and dad figures God has given us. We also celebrated the calling God the Father has placed on each one of us and how he wants to change the world through us His kids.
