In advertising and in the media, we can often observe that milk is portrayed as something that can easily be substituted by the so called "alternatives": plant-based drinks. Although both categories of drinks are white, this is where the similarities end.
First of all, it is important to be precise with the definition, in the EU, purely plant-based products cannot be marketed with designations such as ‘milk’, ‘cream’, ‘butter’, ‘cheese’ or ‘yoghurt’, which are reserved by EU law for animal products. In the US, the debate is still open.
