Agronomy Moment

Beck's Hybrids agronomist Celena Kipping & Regional Agronomy Manager Scott Dickey weigh in on this PFR study. Is it worth considering starter fertilizer on your planter for soybeans? Does nitrogen and sulfur work dribbled or injected beside the row? What about additives for in furrow use? We dive into this in this Agronomy Moment podcast.

Regional Agronomy Manager Scott Dickey and Agronomist for Western Missouri Celena Kipping join me to discuss the variability of weather patterns, their unconventional effect on crop results and stress. If data in a highly variable year is not understood correctly it can become misinformation and lead us to poor or risky decisions in the future. What aspects do we need to understand to be able to learn from the information?

Celena Kipping, agronomist for SW Missouri and SE Kansas joins me today to talk about the Site of Action (SOA) 2 chemicals. This large chemical family uses a mode of action that inhibits the synthesis of amino acids in the plant. These building blocks of cell membranes are critical to plant development and its life. Please watch this video to understand why it is so important to time applications, use overlapping residuals, and spray weeds when they are small. This video focuses on ALS chemistries in general but is more geared toward fall to winter to spring programs that can get you started with weed control on the right foot.

The nitrogen nutrient is a challenging topic due to a variety of factors that change its bonding to the soil The nitrogen cycle also changes in its physical and chemical form. This creates nitrogen loss risks, lack of availability to the plant, and even its location in the soil and atmosphere. It can reside in the soil as ammonium with a positive charge or convert to different forms of nitrate as a negative charge. After that it can volatilize and become a gas, leaving the soil due to anaerobic bacteria to become lost in the atmosphere. Here is a brief deep dive to cover one piece of this puzzle. Joining me is Celena Kipping, agronomist for SW Missouri and SE Kansas to discuss this important nutrient in a successful crop.

This video covers observations of an ILeVo trial we did in 2017. The plot went on to return an approx 7 bpa advantage where SDS symptoms were present and 1.4 bpa advantage where SDS was not present.

We show what can happen to corn yield when depth is shallow or not consistent, low pop vs high pop soybean affecting node counts, and a visual of the effect of weeds on soybean plant stress with Beck's Hybrids Celena Kipping.
