She honestly does not like looking at babies, being in the same room as them, or even hearing about their existence.

In fact, she actually used to have full-blown panic attacks if she had to stand near a baby or toddler for even a short minute or two.

“And if a baby or toddler touched me, I would freak out and have to go wash off a few layers of skin,” she recalled.

She has no clue what causes her to have such an intense reaction to young children. All she does know is that she has always been this way.

Still, she has been working on the issue and has made some progress. For instance, she is able to be more cordial and tolerant of babies and toddlers now without having a complete panic attack.

“However, they still make me very uncomfortable, and I do not want anything to do with them,” she noted.

And recently, this has become a major issue in one of her relationships. More specifically, she has a friend named Sally who reportedly has always known how much she dislikes babies and how uncomfortable the little humans make her.

Amidst the grief, though, she also had to deal with the inheritance that her mother had left behind. Both she and her brother inherited equal parts of her mother’s life savings.

Additionally, because she was her mother’s only daughter, she was left all of her mother’s jewelry. According to her, her mother had a fairly large jewelry collection that was made from various precious gems and metals– making the items very valuable.

The fact that she inherited the jewelry was not a shock to her, though, since she and her mother had actually discussed the items beforehand. And it was during those conversations that she learned her mother’s intentions for the accessories.

“[My mother] told me she wants the jewelry passed down from generation to generation for the women in the family,” she said.

Telling him might not have been the best idea, though, because he then asked if she would give some jewelry to his other two daughters, too.

The domino effect of events all reportedly began in late February after Katie rode past a Stanford football player on her bike and spilled coffee on him.

The decision was supposedly an act of solidarity after that football player allegedly assaulted one of Katie’s soccer teammates– a seventeen-year-old minor.

And following the coffee incident, the university sent Katie a formal written disciplinary notice, as well as put her diploma on hold for a few months– threatening her graduation and subsequent ability to attend Stanford Law School.

According to the complaint, which was filed on Wednesday, November 23, in Santa Clara County Superior Court, Katie received the disciplinary notice via email on the night of February 28– the same evening she took her own life.

The complaint alleges that Stanford “negligently and recklessly” sent that notice.

“Stanford’s after-hours disciplinary charge, and the reckless nature and manner of submission to Katie, caused Katie to suffer an acute stress reaction that impulsively led her to suicide,” says the complaint.

If you have the sniffles, should you attend that ugly Christmas sweater party? Or, if you have a cough, would it be best to skip Secret Santa this year or simply wear a mask?

Well, according to a new study conducted by the University of Colorado Boulder, simply taking the time to stop and ask yourself these questions can make all the difference– because the researchers found that when people self-reflected about the potential consequences of their behavior, people tend to make decisions that will result in the least risk for others.

The international analysis was conducted during the height of the pandemic and included thirteen thousand people. First, each participant was given three different hypothetical scenarios.

In one scenario, the participants owned a small restaurant and were forced to consider reducing their customer capacity as the COVID-19 virus surged.

In the second scenario, the participants had plans to meet up with fifty friends for a birthday party following months of isolation. However, federal mandates still advised against gatherings of ten or more people due to COVID-19.

And finally, the third scenario forced participants to consider whether or not they should cancel a Thanksgiving dinner that thirty family members– including young children and older adults– were supposed to attend.

Before anyone could make a decision, though, half of the study’s participants were instructed to take a step back and practice “structured reflection”– a technique that is supposed to help people be mindful of their values.

Then, the participants asked themselves two questions– how would their decision impact their personal life, and how would it impact public health?

“She was always looking out for her friends,” Rose said of Pearl in an interview with Dateline, “[And] I heard from her teachers she was good. She didn’t always pay attention, but she turned in her work.”

Then, on the Tuesday evening of May 24, 2016, the sisters were speaking on the phone when Pearl revealed that she had been having trouble with girls at school. According to Rose, the fifteen-year-old also claimed she did not want to go to school the next day.

Like a lot of high school drama, though, the issue what short-lived– and by the time Pearl went to bed later that night, she had made up with the other girls.

So, once the morning of Wednesday, May 25, rolled around, Pearl got ready for school and walked to the bus stop just around the corner from her home.
