", NBC, CNN and CBS News projected on Monday.
The tight race between the candidates has been too close to call since Tuesday’s midterms, but the latest results from the state showed that Republican Lake would be unable to overcome current Arizona Secretary of State Hobbs’ lead. As over 71,000 votes and other data came in from Maricopa County tonight, the Comcast-owned network first made its call:
    RELATED STORY

CNN called Hobbs the winner at 6:15 PM PT.
Lake’s defeat is a stunning result for a candidate who seemed poised to become the next star on the right. Just hours before polls closed on November 8, the almost always poised Lake told reporters at a press conference that she would be “your worst freaking nightmare for eight years, and we will reform the media as well. We are going to make you guys into journalists again.” Lake was endorsed by Donald Trump and vigorously embraced his election denialism.
On election night and ever since, Hobbs held a slight lead over Lake, surprising many pundits who had questioned the low-key Democrat’s strategy of declining to participate in a debate with her rival. Lake, meanwhile, has bashed Arizona election officials as slow and incompetent as the process took time. She also raised doubts about the results, but some have refuted election conspiracy claims.
Bill Gates, the Republican chair of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, pushed back against Lake’s claims and told reporters that her criticisms were “offensive.”
Lake’s strategy of questioning the results even landed her in the Saturday Night Live cold open last weekend, in which she was shown bashing the legitimacy of the state count when told she was behind but praising it when she was ahead. The skit also displayed ex-local newser Lake as a possible Fox News host if she lost the election – a fiction that sounds a lot like a fact waiting to happen.
A pick up for the party of Joe Biden, Hobbs will be the first Democratic governor of the increasingly blie state since Janet Napolitano, who served from 2003 to 2009. Former Veep Biden won Arizona in 2020 in a very tight race of his own against former Celebrity Apprentice host Trump – a fact that the ex-POTUS has clearly never been able to get over.
Lake is the latest election denier to lose her bid. On Friday, networks projected that Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) would defeat another Trump endorsee, Blake Masters, in the race for U.S. Senate in Arizona and win a full term for himself. With the former astronaut heading back to the upper chamber, and Nevada incumbent Catherine Cortez Masto declared the winner in her close race on November 12, the Democrats now have 50 seats in the Senate. Even with the Georgia run-off to be decided on December 6, now, with Vice President Kamala Harris providing the tie breaker, the Democrats retain control of the upper chamber after a midterm election many predicted would see President Joe Biden and the Dems drowned in a Red Wav

"ul career as an actress, it's for her hosting gig on The View. Goldberg has been a public figure who divides opinion, but is beloved all the same. She is one of the few who have reached EGOT status. Goldberg has starred in such films as The Color Purple, Ghost, and Sister Act.
In 2003, however, Goldberg tried her hand at something different. She developed a sitcom for NBC titled Whoopi. The show received mixed reception from critics and was canceled after one season. Many felt Goldberg's career seemed grim after this failed venture.
    Close
However, Goldberg got her career back on track. What exactly was the reason the sitcom didn't do well with critics? Why didn't it last beyond its one season? Let's find out.
Whoopi Goldberg Gets Her Start In The Business
Goldberg made her first onscreen appearance in the avant-garde William Farley film Citizen: I'm Not Losing My Mind, I'm Giving It Away in 1982. She also got further attention in her one-woman show where she portrayed Moms Mabley in 1983 and 1984.
In 1983, Goldberg created The Spook Show, a one-woman show consisting of different character monologues. One of the characters, Fontaine, was into drugs and shared their opinion on the world's issues. Director Mike Nichols saw one of the performances and got emotional in the audience. He helped Goldberg transfer the show to Broadway, where it was taped for HBO. The special was titled Whoopi Goldberg: Direct from Broadway, and aired in 1985.

What Whoopi Goldberg Has Planned For Sister Act 3
Goldberg's Broadway run caught the eye of Steven Spielberg, who cast her in his film The Color Purple. This film helped propel Goldberg into super stardom. She even received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress.
Goldberg would later star in the film Ghost, under the insistence of its star Patrick Swayze. Goldberg once again received major acclaim for her performance. This time, she was not only nominated for an Academy Award, but won. Goldberg took home the trophy for Best Supporting Actress, becoming the first Black woman to do so.
Goldberg found continued success with the popular Sister Act movie and its sequel. She also appeared in the 1998 film How Stella Got Her Groove Back.
The Sitcom Whoopi Failed On NBC
Whoopi Goldberg developed a sitcom for NBC called Whoopi. The actress acted as executive producer as well. The show was created by Bonnie and Trey Turner, with all episodes directed by Terry Hughes. It premiered in September 2003.
The show followed Mavis Rae, played by Goldberg, a one-hit wonder from the 1980s who ran a hotel in New York City. She was a heavy smoker who drank heavily. Mavis also had a lot of strong political opinions and cared very little about being politically correct.
She expressed an open disdain for the then-President George W. Bush. She was also very rude to the people around her, although there were occasional moments of softness.
Mavis's brother Courtney, played by Wren T. Brown, was living rent-free at the hotel. Courtney lost his job at Enron Corporation and was looking for

"led a sex discrimination suit against the station, accusing it of firing her over her relationship with the police chief of a Worcester suburb when other newsroom employees were getting away with the same thing or worse, except they were men - and of ignoring an unending barrage of harassment by one of her fellow investigative reporters.
In her suit, filed in US District Court in Boston, Hensel paints a picture of a newsroom where she was made to pay for the sin of being a woman while a male producer was able to sleep with an on-air reporter, at least until the reporter's husband showed up one day for a newsroom confrontation.
Hensel said her problems started almost immediately on her arrival at NBC Boston and NECN from Indianapolis, when she was paired with ""Jane Doe,"" another investigative reporter she charges hated and harassed her:
The sexually-hostile work environment at NBC10-Boston was primarily perpetuated by Jane Doe, another female investigative reporter and co-worker employed by defendants. Ms. Doe’s conduct and actions were designed and intended to interfere with plaintiff’s work performance and career success in an effort to make Ms. Doe stand out as the leading female investigative reporter at the station. ...
As early as 2017, station management at NBC10-Boston and plaintiff's supervisors expressly recognized Ms. Doe's sexually harassing behavior toward plaintiff and others when her manager wrote in Ms. Doe's performance appraisal: ""Team dynamics can often be a challenge. A big focus of the new year for the unit should be to build relationships.""
    In contrast:
Plaintiff's 2017 and 2018 performance evaluations were both overwhelmingly positive. In her 2017 employee evaluation, plaintiff's manager wrote: ""Karen has been a driving force in getting the Investigators' unit off the ground. Her story-telling technique has really set a nice tone for the unit.""
Hensel, who now works at WSVN in Miami - WHDH's sister station - says she complained repeatedly, but managers did nothing.
Hensel alleges the other woman eventually told one of the investigative unit's producers that Hensel was dating the police chief in Auburn - and that he in turn alerted their supervisor, even though he didn't know why Doe was telling him that and that he knew she hated Hensel. In any case, by February 2019, ""at least three members of NBC10-Boston station management were aware of plaintiff’s relationship with a local Police Chief,"" the complaint alleges.
From February 2019 through defendants’ offer of a second three-year employment agreement to plaintiff in July 2019, defendants and NBC10-Boston station management raised no issues or concerns whatsoever regarding plaintiff’s personal relationship with a local Police Chief.
But then, Hensel continues, her rival's hatred grew even deeper when the station moved to a new building and management put their desks too close together. So, Hensel alleges, the woman filed an anonymous complaint with NBC corporate about Hensel dating the chief. Management told Hensel she'd have

" who have grown through adoption. Children’s Bureau is one of the largest private, non-profit adoption agencies in California and one of the few that is nationally accredited by the Child Welfare League of America. In Los Angeles County alone, the foster care population exceeds 33,000 children with 200 of those foster children waiting for an adoptive family.
If you or someone you know may be interested in learning more, join us on November 17th from 4:00 – 5:00 P.M. for an online virtual orientation. For questions and/or to get started, call 800-730-3933, email [email protected] or visit https://www.all4kids.org/foster-care-and-adoption-inquiry-form/ to complete a quick inquiry form. A link to the meeting will be emailed to you.
Children’s Bureau partners with over 200 foster-adoptive families annually to help at-risk youth by giving them a home that is nearby and inclusive to their foster siblings. Lisa and Michael began their foster-adoptive journey by providing a stable home to a sibling set of three, two girls and a boy. They worked to keep the family together and have experienced a bond like no other. “If adoption is in your future, there is no need to look any further than our surrounding county. So many local children need a family. If you are wanting to “make a difference” with your life, consider adopting from foster care. You could be saving generations,” said Lisa.
In the 1940’s, Children’s Bureau opened adoption services and found homes for refugee children orphans from World War II. The agency continues to meet the needs by offering a wide array of programs in areas related to adoption such as foster care, prevention, and mental health. Children’s Bureau has multiple locations operating throughout Southern California.
“Right now children who have experienced trauma and have been separated from their birth family need our help,” says Leslie Oropeza, Children’s Bureau Director of Foster Care and Adoption. “We are looking for families who can open their homes and hearts to these children. Families who have extra space and the willingness to keep them together. Statistics show siblings kept together in foster care and adoption do better later in life. They heal quicker from their trauma, have better attachments, and develop healthy self-images,” she adds.
Children’s Bureau welcomes all individuals regardless of race, age, religion, disability, marital status, ethnic background, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression to become a resource for children. Qualifying families receive training and support throughout their journey. Foster Care and Adoption Programs are available in Kern, Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and Ventura counties.

The Ballona Wetlands once encompassed more than 2,000 acres, stretching from Playa del Rey to Venice and inland to the Baldwin Hills. Now, only about 600 acres of open space remain, and much of that area is highly degraded after centuries of development and abuse, according to The Bay Foundation.
Although “No Stopping” and “No Dumping” signs line Jefferson Boulevard, the City of Los Angeles has permitted an extensive RV encampment to flourish over the last 18 months despite providing them with no services, sanitation or security. “We are witnessing Ballona’s destruction on a daily basis,” CD11 Candidate Traci Park told voters this summer.
The RVs started lining up there when police were prevented from issuing tickets or towing vehicles parked overnight alongside the marsh by public health orders. Last week an early morning parking task force in the vicinity of Ballona Creek resulted in ten unoccupied vehicles being towed and 30 citations handed out.

Development Impact Fees are collected from builders to offset the effect new projects are anticipated to have on the surrounding neighborhood. A 16-unit building built on a formerly vacant lot could bring a few dozen new neighbors who want to ride on bike paths, swing on swing sets and flush toilets as they please.
“Santa Monica collects Council authorized fees from developments to offset increased demands on public improvements, public services, and community amenities, including child care, transportation, parks, affordable housing, and water conservation,” according to information from city staff. “The City has also used these funds to meet the City’s match requirement when seeking grant funding that further offsets costs for City projects.”
The fees are gathered in line with a 1987 state law that outlines how such fees can be collected.
On Tuesday, Santa Monica City Council will receive a report on the latest fees gathered for development in fiscal year 2021-22.
In that year, which went from July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022, the City of Santa Monica collected a little more than $5 million in such fees.
In that time, developers chipped in $676,866 toward the Childcare Linkage Fee, for commercial projects over 7,500 square feet and multi-family residential projects. The fund, which ended the fiscal year with a balance of $769,644, did not make any expenditures last year.
The Transportation Impact Fee, which is “collected on eligible new development and changes in land use that result in increased trip generation,” is intended to fund transportation infrastructure improvements like crosswalks, traffic signals and bike facilities. Last year, this fund collected $1.7 million, which together with interest ended in a final fund balance of $11.4 million. The fund also expended $929,000 on various pedestrian and bicycle improvements like multimodal signal detection, the modification of the intersection of Ocean Avenue and the California Incline and other enhancements. Next year, the City expects to spend $4.1 million on the annual repaving project; the year after, another $3.2 million will be spent on planning/construction of various protected bikeways.
The Parks and Recreation Development Impact Fee, which amounted to $1.9 million last year, is collected from new residential and commercial development. Last year, the fund spent about $944,000 and ended with a final balance of $4 million.
Money spent in 2021-22 went to improvements at Marine Park, plus the removal and re-landscaping of the petanque courts in Palisades Park. In addition, Beach Park #1 got new picnic tables and Reed Park’s tennis courts were resurfaced with money from the fund.
Santa Monica received another $742,931 (plus $2,719 in interest) toward the Affordable Housing Commercial Linkage (AHCL) Fee. The AHCL was founded at the start of FY 2015-16 with its stated goal “to contribute to the creation of affordable housing production and preservation to offset the additional need for affordable housing generated by new

The 60-year-old hotel, which occupies a prime spot steps from the foot of the Pier, is undergoing an extensive renovation in preparation for an opening expected in early 2023. Part of that renovation includes converting an existing 1,202-square-foot restaurant into an extended lobby area, plus the construction of an 829-square-foot uncovered wooden deck in the adjacent public right-of-way.
The application for the renovations was submitted by Felcor Santa Monica Owner, LLC, evidently part of FelCor/RLJ Lodging Trust, a multi-billion dollar real estate investment trust that runs dozens of high-end and luxury hotels around the country.
On Friday, Nov. 18, the California Coastal Commission was set to receive a report on a Coastal Development Permit waiver detailing the renovations, which are taking place within the Coastal Zone and therefore governed by the Coastal Act.
“The project includes interior remodel of the ground floor to re-configure existing retail, restaurant, and lobby uses within the existing area, in addition to construction of a new deck with exterior restaurant service floor area,” according to a brief description provided in staff reports for the upcoming Coastal Commission hearing, which will take place in Salinas, Calif., and be live streamed. “The proposed deck will encroach 16.5-ft. into the existing 32.5-ft. wide public right-of-way, but the City has provided a letter of support for the proposed deck. The City wishes to alleviate sidewalk congestion on the other side of Ocean Avenue by drawing visitors to the proposed new restaurant area. The project will maintain a 16-ft. wide public right-of-way which exceeds ADA requirements. The reconfiguration of existing uses will not significantly increase the need for parking and the hotel is located within 0.5 mile of public transit.”
LA County parcel maps state the existing 132-room hotel was constructed in 1966, prior to the passage of the Coastal Act. The hotel’s 96 parking spaces would not be affected by the changes.
According to California Coastal Commission Executive Director Jack Ainsworth and Coastal Program Analyst Chloe Seifert, the proposed changes are in line with the City’s Land Use Plan as well as previous Coastal Commission actions in the area.
Although the Pierside was still under active construction as of mid-November, its website is live and shows images of sun-drenched Santa Monica Beach alongside mock-ups of future guest rooms and suites.
