Updated: A man is in danger of death after a shooting in Msida

Update: 10.30am | Vince Muscat was one of the people accused of the attempted murder of two Policemen in a failed hold-up at the HSBC Head Office in Qormi in 2010. Muscat was granted provisional liberty. It seems that the way the shooting took place was similar to that of February 4, when Joe Galea, 58 years old and known as "The Skin", was shot dead outside his home. in Marsa. However, it is not known if the two cases are related.

    Earlier...

A 52-year-old man is in danger of losing his life after being hit by gunshots late last night in Triq Bordin, Msida. From a preliminary investigation carried out by the Police, it appears that the man, Vince Muscatli, who lives in the same street, had just left his residence at around 11.30pm and as he was about to ride the vehicle, a number of shots were fired. of shots some of which hit him.

It seems that a total of five shots were fired and Muscat, despite being injured, managed to drive to the Msida police station from where he asked for help. The Police who were at the Police Station gave him first aid until an Ambulance arrived and took him to the Mater Dei Hospital for treatment. The first medical results showed that the man, who is well known to the Police, is in a critical condition and in danger of losing his life.

The Police does not answer whether a breathalyser test was carried out after the accident of Minister Owen Bonnici

The Police do not want to answer a simple question put to them by MaltaRightNow.com about the traffic accident outside the Santa Venera tunnel, in which the Minister of Justice Owen Bonnici was involved. We asked if, as sometimes happens in such cases, a breathalyser test was done . Yesterday morning, we sent three specific questions to the Police: if a breathalyser test was done when the Police arrived at the scene, if it was done on who and what was the result.

But the Police did not answer any of these questions. The response of the Public Relations Section of the Body to our questions about the breathalyser test was only that the investigations are still ongoing and therefore it is not prudent to comment. The Police and the Government hid this case for five whole days. While the Police did not issue any statement about the incident, as usually happens, it was only five days after the incident took place and a few hours after we revealed the story that the Government issued a statement.

The statement published by the Ministry of Justice, led by Bonnici himself, confirmed word for word what was revealed. But now, Minister Owen Bonnici is admitting that the decision to keep this case hidden from the media and the public was a wrong one. He said that it would have been better if, for the sake of transparency, the Minister or at least the Police had issued a statement with the details of the case. In the case in question, Owen Bonnici killed two young people, one of whom had to be operated on because he broke his leg.

The sentiment expressed by Owen Bonnici was also expressed in a number of people's comments on news portals precisely about this story. Many expressed their dismay at the lack of transparency regarding this case. Owen Bonnici's incident, which was kept hidden, could lead to the Minister of Justice facing criminal charges in Court because the incident involved serious injuries.

In the statement, Minister Bonnici admitted that while an amicable agreement was reached between the parties from a civil point of view, a formal Police report was made on the case and therefore necessarily that the case must go to Court in the Session of - Police Traffic.

Italy: Rescued around 4,000 irregular immigrants in two days

In the last two days, Italy rescued around 4,000 irregular immigrants who were crossing the Mediterranean sea to reach the coast of Italy. The Italian Minister of the Interior Angelino Alfano said that what happened in the last two days now clearly shows how the situation of irregular immigrants is a serious one.

Alfano explained that today two boats were saved from sinking with more than 300 irregular immigrants on each. From the beginning of the year until now, Italy has rescued around 15,000 immigrants. Alfano concluded by saying that we must see the roots of the immigrant problem by starting to address the traffickers.

Louis Gatt confirms that Claudette Buttigieg's 50 votes and Paul Buttigieg's 10 votes could have made the difference in proportionality

The 50 votes of Claudette Butigieg that were with the packages of votes of Michael Asciaq on the eighth district and the 10 votes that were not found that belonged to Paul Buttigieg on the 13th district could have made d -difference to the way the electoral system works in Malta, that of proportionality. This came out in the testimony that continued to be given by the Vice President of the Labor Party and Head of the Labor Electoral Office Louis Gatt when the case that the Nationalist Party is making against the Electoral Commission continued to be heard due to deficiencies that could have been there on the eighth and 13th districts in the last general election.

Louis Gatt, who was responding in the cross-examination to questions made by the lawyer Paul Borg Olivier, also said that the votes of Claudette Buttigieg were inherited but he did not know exactly how because he was not in the hall at that time . He was only talking about what one of the Labor Party Delegate Frederick Azzopardi told him. He said that according to the Law, Claudette Buttigieg's votes were inherited according to Michael Axiaq's preference although he was not sure if that happened.

Huge loss for the 'taxpayer' from the Government's public transport

The extraordinary loss that the Government company Malta Public Transport made in the first three months in which public transport was in the hands of the Government is of great concern to everyone who pays taxes. This loss amounted to €7 million in just three months. This means that, in just three months, the Government forced the Maltese taxpayer to pay as much as he had previously paid in a whole year in subsidy to the company Arriva.

In a statement on behalf of the Spokesman of the Opposition for Transport and Infrastructure Toni Bezzina, the Nationalist Party said that this is an unacceptable situation from a Government that boasted that it is managing public transport better than the Arriva company and that it was describes the Arriva service as a "disaster". Now the truth of the truly disastrous management of the Government in public transport in these three months is coming out. Due to this mismanagement of the Government, the Labor Government lost everyone who pays taxes €7 million in three months, while the service went backwards.

The Government removed the night service at the weekend, a number of routes were removed from the last cars at 11pm and a number of routes are working with cars that many elderly people, disabled people and women with children cannot use them. In addition, the interest that Minister Joe Mizzi had claimed was in the public transport contract did not result. Only three companies showed interest in the public transport service and two Maltese companies showed their interest because otherwise the Government would have no choice but to settle for the conditions of one company.

The PN said that the lack of interest shows that the Government is managing to discourage foreign investment. This results from the fact that several foreign private companies have withdrawn their interest and commented publicly that the Government has misled them with concealment and interference, which are a threat to investment. The PN wished that the Government would no longer throw the enormous burdens on those who pay taxes, as it did in these first three months in which it operated the public transport. He also wished that the Government would improve the service that went back in these three months in which the Government worked.

The EP is an opportunity for the people to be represented on a European level

"The European Parliament is a unique opportunity for the Maltese and Gozitan people to be represented on a European level, where we can convey the needs of our citizens and work to defend their interests and rights". This was the message of the Nationalist Party candidate for the European Parliament election, Ray Bugeja, during one of a series of meetings he organized as part of his electoral campaign.

Ray Bugeja said that if he is elected he will be Ambassador of Malta in Europe and of Europe in Malta.

Ray Bugeja said that his professional experience, in the economy and financial services both in our country and abroad, will help him carry out his work. He said that he is committed to continue training and serving even in several other fields. After Ray Bugeja's speech, a discussion was held with interventions from the public, during which the PN candidate for the European Parliament spoke about the financial markets in Europe and the Eurozone.

Alleged violation of fundamental rights on a place occupied without any title

Owners of a place in Hamrun presented a Constitutional Case after, according to them, their fundamental rights were violated because this residence is being occupied without any valid title according to the Law. The proceedings started by Emanuel Aquilina, Rita Aquilina and Rose Calleja against the Prime Minister, the Attorney General and Carmen Gatt, who is living in this place.

In the Appeal it was said that this property, located in Triq Farsons, had been given with a temporary emphytheus title for 21 years on 17 April 1999 to a certain Joseph Gatt, Carmen Gatt's father.

Gatt had died when the temporary emphytheus had not been converted into a lease and therefore, according to the Appeal, Carmen Gatt still lives in the place without any valid title according to the Law.

For its part, the First Chamber of the Civil Court had rejected the requests made by Emanuel and Rita Aquilina. Later an appeal was made from this decision and the Court of Appeal had decided that the matter was simply "frivolous and vexatious".

That was why Emmanuel and Rita Aquilina, together with Rose Calleja, opened a Constitutional Case stressing that the articles of the Law that were applied by the First Chamber and the Court of Appeal violate their fundamental rights. They also asked the Constitutional Court to declare that Gatt cannot use the said Law to continue to suffer in the place.

The Appeal was signed by lawyers David Camilleri and Joseph Gatt.
